This rivalry has had some very good games in it's time, including the first match in it's history when it finished England 3–3 Germany.
The most famous one is obviously the 1966 World Cup Final, when England won 4-2 in EXTRA TIME! The first and only time England have only ever won the World Cup.
The last meeting was an international friendly on the 26th March when England surprisingly turned up to win 2-3.
The last time England and Germany met in a major competition was back in 2010 in the world cup, when England lost 4-1.
England have three major stars out, Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge who are all out due to injury, while Theo Walcott misses out due to not being selected. Jermain Defoe has been selected this time round by Gareth Southgate for the first time since 2013.
Defoe was very surprised by the call up as he said:
"It was funny because on the iPhones, it pops up on the screen, but you don't see the full message,
‘I just saw the name. I thought, “Gareth? I don't know a Gareth, who's this?”, so I put my phone down.
‘Then I looked at it – “Hi Jermain, it's Gareth Southgate, can I give you a call when you're free?” And I said: “Yes, no problem” and we just had a chat, really, about how I felt about England.
‘We had a good chat. He's a nice guy, someone who I played against, so we had a little laugh about that.
‘I said, “It's been a long time, I remember you kicking me years ago”, but generally, he's a really nice man, to be fair. I've always had respect for him.
‘I just think it's nice when managers actually pick the phone up. It's a five-minute phone call, so I appreciated the phone call and I'm obviously delighted that I'm back in there."
On the other hand, Germany are without Mario Gotze because he is ruled out until next season with metabolic disorder. Apart from that Germany have a very solid side including Mesut Özil, Manuel Neuer and Julian Draxler.
England's key player:
Marcus Rashford - with Wayne Rooney out I believe this is a real chance for the youngster to show what he's all about. I think if Gareth was to put him in a position it would be on the wing due to the likes of Jermain Defoe and Jamie Vardy being chosen, two very good strikers. I think Rashford would 100% get first team on the wing.
Germany's key player:
Mario Gomez - this could be very debatable but the reason I have chose Mario is due to his experience against England and in the game in general. He is one of few good strikers Germany have and I think he could shine on the day.
I think the score will finish 2-1, as much as I want England to pick up the win, I can't see it myself. Germany have selected a very strong side and England are missing out on a few major players to the team.
