Will Cobblers improve the team enough to avoid the drop?

So here we are in the long awaited January transfer window, the hope has been that by January it’s not too late for us to sort out our season and although we sit in the drop zone I still believe with good recruitment we can stay up this year.

So far in the window we have signed four players; Hilderberto Pereira – The Portuguese winger/right back joins the cobblers on loan from Legia Warsaw, he has added pace and a lot of threat on the attack to our side, he is already proving influential after his debut on Saturday getting an assist after a trademark solo run. Shay Facey – The young right back from City signs for an undisclosed fee for the Cobblers and looks to be an improvement to Brendan Moloney who hasn’t had the best of seasons for us, Shay also looked very solid in his debut, earning him a MOTM performance on his debut! Richard O’Donnell – The experienced goalkeeper from Rotherham, looks to be a good replacement to Ingram who is expected to be recalled by QPR, hopefully O’Donnell will prove to be an important man in our survival battle. And finally, Jack Bridge – The young midfielder was never really given a chance at Southend and joins us on a free transfer, I’m dubious about this one as I don’t know much about the player but I have been told he has bags of potential, which could prove exciting in years to come.

We have got some good players in so far and i’m excited to see what else is to come from Hasslebaink. A striker is really what we need now and I’m hearing news that we are in talks with two players at the moment, one of them is said to be scoring a lot of goals at the moment although I can not confirm myself who this player is. In recent days I’ve seen links with Abdenasser El Khayati, this really would be a fantastic signing for the cobblers matching the ambition of some of our other recent signings, this one is likely to be a loan move for now with the player having 3 years left on his contract. The Cobblers have also been linked with Truro striker Cody Cooke, I’m really not sure about this one as he doesn’t seem to be scoring a lot at that level so why would he in League 1 ? Also with players like Lobjoit and Iaciofano out on loan scoring for fun you would have to question why we are looking at this type of player when these two are far better in my opinion.

Personally I would love to see us sign Christian Doidge or Danny Hylton, both in unstoppable form in League 2, I really do think they could be what our side needs to stay up this year along with the other signings they could really improve our squad.

There is still plenty of time left in this window and it will be exciting to see what will come from it and hopefully it will see us stay up this season, Come on you cobblers!
