Crawley Town ensured Leeds United’s Fa-cup hoodoo continued this afternoon, beating the Yorkshire outfit and Premier League giants, Leeds United by three goals to nil in a commanding and domineering display by the Red Devils. Leeds struggled to break down a stubborn and resolute Crawley Town back-line, the only opening United were able to carve out being Ian Poveda’s attempt at Will Norris but the Crawley shot-stopper was able to deny the City loanee, keeping the tie firmly in the balance. Crawley came off the blocks quick in the second-half and their persistency paid dividends when Nick Tsaroulla fired home to give the Sussex outfit the dream start. Tsaroulla got the beating of many players in White before firing under Kiko Casilla to hand Crawley a surprise lead. With an element of exasperation slowly creeping into the Leeds camp, the Red Devils looked to seek a second and managed to do so when Crawley-born Ashley Nadesan, hammered home under the arms of Kiko Casilla, with the Spanish keeper succumbing to yet another goal at his near-post.
When asked about Leeds’ abject performance on the road, Bielsa replied saying it ‘generates a lot of sadness’ , the Argentine boss clearly agitated by Leeds’ atrocious display against lower-league opposi
tion. The result follows the line of many humiliating performances in the FA CUP most notably in 2008, when Leeds narrowly fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Histon. The hosts put the nail in the coffin when a lapse of concentration at the back from Leeds left Tunnicliffe with a gaping goal who stabbed home from point-blank range after Casilla had fumbled the original attempt from the lively Nadesan. The Whites will look to rectify their recent patchy form next Saturday when they play host to Brighton and Hove Albion, who are also in action in the cup this evening away to South-Wales outfit, Newport County.
