Watford’s Player & Goal of The Season 2017/18!

With just four games left to play, it is now time for Watford fans to cast their votes for the player and goal of the season awards for this campaign. You can vote here and watch all of the contenders for goal of the season. Here is my verdict for both categories.

Player of The Season

Without a doubt Watford’s star man has been Abdoulaye Doucoure who has consistently played to a high level. Scoring 7 goals as the Hornets top scorer, the Frenchman has dominated midfielders with his slickness on the ball, ability to recover possession frequently and dictate moves being the heartbeat of the team. You felt if he had got injured through any part of the season the team would’ve have been half as effective and his presence is so pivotal to making sure the play ticks.

Perhaps the greatest tribute to Doucoure as that the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the 25 year old. Since he himself has talked up a move he has fallen well short of his high standards but this vote always has to be one looking at the bigger picture and I’d be very surprised to see any Watford fan place a vote for anyone other than Doucoure.

Goal of The Season

This for me is a far more debateable choice and will go down to personal preference of the type of goal scored, the game in which the goal was scored etc. I have once again decided to opt for Abdoulaye Doucoure, this time with his stunning strike at home to Huddersfield. As a Watford free kick is cleared to the edge of the box the midfielder strolls up to strike the ball on the half volley from 25 yards and rifles it home, right in the corner leaving the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance. For me it is definitely the best goal the Golden Boys have scored all season with the technique and concentration being world class from Doucoure. However it was merely a consolation in what proved to be a 4-1 defeat for what was a truly miserable game under Marco Silva.

With plenty more enjoyable days and some good goals to match, Janmaat’s brightly worked goal against Chelsea was tempting particularly as that 4-1 victory will live long in the memory and that was the all important second goal it cannot be ignored and it is not alone with some other great goals in the mix.
