Watford’s impressive and best ever start to a Premier League season continues after beating Arsenal at Vicarage Road by two goals to one. The pressure continues to slump on Arsene Wenger and the praise only increases for Marco Silva after his side finish the day in 4th place, while the visitors remain in sixth place nine points behind the current leaders Manchester City. The main talking point of the match, was the penalty decision equaliser which all can see is a certain dive by Brazilian Richarlison, but the referee gave a terrible call and affected the outcome of the match.

Watford (4-3-3)

GK – Gomes 7.5 = Produced a good save to deny Xhaka in the first half and an even better reaction save to deny Iwobi from close range and then Ozil after spreading himself in a one on one situation. Kept Watford in the game by his saves reducing the deficit.

LB – Holebas 7.5 = Watford’s best defender providing essential last man challenges. Also looked a threat going forwards. He looks a really important player for Marco Silva’s men this season.

CB – Britos 6.5 = Defended well most of the time but occasionally left his partner stranded at times.

CB – Mariappa 7 = Solid defensive performance that will unfortunately go under the radar because of the lack of media coverage Watford get.

CB – Kabasele 6= Booked in the second half for a poor challenge on Lacazette. Overall he wasn’t spectacular but did defend well by getting back at important times.

RB – Kiko 7 = Impressive performance, especially for someone so young and inexperienced in the English game. Dealt with Ozil and Welbeck comfortably.

CM – Doucoure 6.5 = Controlled the game at times and showed he wasn’t afraid to get forward at times.

CM – Cleverley 6.5 = Was at fault for the first goal losing the header to Mertesacker. However, he should not marking a man of his height. More than made up for it though, scoring the winner in the 92nd minute firing the ball into the roof of the net with a composed finish, capping off a good performance.

LW – Richarlison 7 = Produced many bright moments with his trickery and pace. Watford’s biggest threat and won the penalty although when he looks back at it he cannot be proud to con the referee with a horrendous dive. As impressive and easy on the eye he was, in my opinion he should serve a two match ban for the dive.

ST – Gray 6.5= Ran around a lot but to no avail, wasn’t really in the game and was consequently replaced by Deeney after an hour of play.

RW – Pererya 6 = Looked bright early on but was continuously isolated and struggled to get in the game.

Subs:

ST- Deeney 62′ 8= Should of started, was an absolute nuisance to the Gunners defence and cooly dispatched the penalty for the equaliser.

CM- Carillo 62′ 7= Also looked a threat when he came on, with accurate passing and not being afraid to have a go at goal.

CM- Capoue 81′ 7= Almost scored with his deflected strike and looked a real threat when he came on.

Arsenal (3-4-2-1)

GK – Cech 6= Didn’t really have anything to do for most of the game and the two goals he conceded cannot be put down to him.

CB – Monreal 6 = Didn’t have much defending to do but when called upon he did his job well, like his other defenders to concede late on will anger him and his team mates.

CB – Mertesacker 7= Bullet header to put Arsenal in front leaping high and firing the ball into the net. Defended reasonably well when called upon. However, he and his fellow defenders will be disappointed to concede  a sloppy goal late on.

CB – Koscielny 6 = Managed Gray and Deeney well and when called upon but will be frustrated not to deal with the danger late on.

LWB- Kolasinac 5.5 = Average performance by not making much of an impact in the game.

CM – Xhaka 7.5 = Very good performance, defended brilliantly and also controlled the tempo of the game with accurate passing. Also, provided a great delivery from the corner that resulted in the opener.

CM – Elneny 4.5 = A bystander in midfield, not really giving Arsenal any form of threat or defensive stability.

RWB – Bellerin 6.5 = Looked a real threat all of the first half for Arsenal, however did give the penalty away bringing down Richarlison in the second half, although the decision by the referee is certainly the wrong one giving a undeserved penalty. Bit like his teammates he faded out of the game as it went on.

LW – Welbeck 6.5 = Bright and creative in the first half, but not as influential as he’d hoped. Replaced by Ozil after an hour going off after picking up an unfortunate injury.

RW – Iwobi 4.5 = He struggled to get in the game, possibly because of Holebas’s impressive performance. Still not convinced he’s worthy of playing for Arsenal, but you could say that about a lot of Arsenal’s players.

ST – Lacazette 7.5 = Lead the line well and constantly brought other Arsenal attackers into play, more in the first half. Replaced by Giroud on after 68 minutes.

Subs:

CAM- Ozil 60‘ 5= Had to score in the one on one just a minute before Watfords equaliser, but his poor effort cost Arsenal.

ST- Giroud 68‘ N/A= No notable impact.

CB- Holding 85′ N/A= No notable impact.
