Walking In A Wagner Wonderland!!! HTFC 2 – 0 BHAFC

The scene was set, Huddersfield vs Brighton. North Vs South. 3:00 PM kick off, blue and white vs blue and white. The line ups were announced and at the time controversial picks Löwe and Mounié in for Malone and Depoitre respectively. Brighton showed their strong attacking play that has got them to 13th however again a brief spell of momentum in the 12th minute from Huddersfield won a corner and it was an aerial battle which fell to the poacher Beninese striker Mounié where he slotted it into the bottom left corner and the stadium erupted. Pure Joy from both the players and fans alike, 1-0 to Town. A mild 30 minutes followed until again a corner followed, where Danish Born Zanka leaped for a header from a brilliant cross from Mooy and the ball again hit the head of Mounié and trickled past the flailing Matt Ryan. 2-0 Town had moved to 11th. The snow was falling, it was a Christmas miracle.

The second half was full of Town attacks but the chances came to nothing, Brighton played every man behind the ball and countered when possible, I have to say that the Columbian Izquierdo was very promising when coming on and seemed to offer a new spark to a very boring second half performance from Brighton.

England Manager Gareth Southgate was spotted in the stands today and most people who watched the game would argue that Defensive Midfielder Jonathan Hogg has to be in the ranks for an England call up, every challenge he went for he won and offered some great chances for the ONLY Yorkshire premier league team. I find it hard to pick a man of the match today as there were a lot of star performances from 11 men. I think the best 6 players however were the scorer of the Brace Mounié, Tom Ince who had many chances and at times seemed like he should of scored his first premier league goal today, however if he keeps up these kind of performances I feel his first goal could come soon the second midfielder has to be Hogg who I think played the best he ever has in the colours of Huddersfield. The final three have to be Smith, Schindler and Zanka a great defensive bond has been formed in a short time and for a value of around 20 million I feel is one of the best defensive lineups in the league, I would include the rest of the team but these 6 were my pick for star men.

Overall I think a promising performance and I believe winning this game today shows that we have the potential to stay in this league and keep the Heffing dream going, Wagner’s tactics are turning eyes towards the Team of the town, the yearly relegation candidates. Personally as a fan I think we just need to ride the wave and keep the momentum, the next game is against defenders of the League Chelsea who today lost to strugglers West Ham United. We should focus on the atmosphere and back the players and just enjoy it.
