We at All Out Football posed the simple question on our Twitter account, who should feature in our best Championship XI side. As ever there are always plenty of different opinions in what is usually such a tightly contested division. Here is the verdict our footballing community came to.

Goalkeeper – Kieren Westwood/David Stockdale

Taking a joint vote, both of these ‘keepers currently occupy a place in top six and have a wealth of experience which make them dependable between the sticks.

Right Back – DeAndre Yedlin

Having spent the previous season on loan at Sunderland, making a move to fiercest rivals Newcastle might not have gone down to well but Yedlin has clearly made an impression, taking the right back slot by Championship fans.

Centre Back – Pontus Jansson

A clear winner of the vote at centre back, Jansson has become somewhat of an instant cult hero at Elland Road and a series of fine performances has been recognised putting him in your Championship XI.

Centre Back – Lewis Dunk

Another clear winner with Jansson, Dunk is recognised as one of the finest defenders outside the top flight and has been instrumental in Brighton’s recent success making a firm pairing at the back of this team.

Left Back – Robbie Brady

The left sided player occupies the left back position. The Norwich City man has constantly been linked with a move away from Carrow Road, after a productive season in the Premier League last campaign.

Right Wing – Anthony Knockaert

A real talent and a standout player in the Championship this season with Brighton, Knockaert is a box of tricks and is one of the top creative forces in the league. He was lopsided Gayle, the most popular pick out of the lot.

Central Midfielder – Jonjo Shelvey

If Benitez could get the best out of Shelvey then Newcastle would certainly have a top player on their hands and that’s exactly how it’s proved. The former Swansea man has picked up his game massively since he first arrived on Tyneside and is so far on course to take the Magpies back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Central Midfielder – Conor Hourihane

The Barnsley Captain is a strong force in the heart of midfield and has been strongly linked with Aston Villa. Hourihane has been key to dragging Barnsley into an impressive 8th place so far this term.

Central Midfielder – Tom Cairney

The cultured left footed midfielder has been recognised by fans across the Championship with his ability on the ball a step above many in the second tier. His eye for a pass and goal has contributed to a good start to the season for the Cottagers but Cairney has proven himself time and time again for Fulham and Blackburn alike.

Left Wing – Matt Ritchie

The former Bournemouth man has already been there and done it. He was pivotal in that promotion campaign and like a few in this team, is looking in a good position to do it again. The Scots intelligence from wide areas has caused defences problems in the Championship for quite some time.

Striker – Dwight Gayle

The Championship top scorer was the joint favourite pick and his big money move has certainly paid off. Arriving from Crystal Palace, Gayle has taken the league by storm finding the net frequently.
