Jose Mourinho announced earlier today that he is not confident that Manchester United will have any signings completed today but it appears he may have to backtrack on his words according to the latest reports. Sky Sports reports that Manchester United are attempting a late move for Atletico Madrid centre-back, Diego Godin.
The Uruguayan international was a standout performer at the World Cup as he captained his country to the quarter-finals. At 32-years-old, it is unlikely that the transfer fee would be very high which also gives Diego Simeone very little incentive to sell his star defender.
Manchester United will be desperate to complete the deal after having Jerome Boateng snub the club as well as failed moves for Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld. Obviously, nothing can be ruled out until the deadline at 5 PM but Manchester United would be wise to do all they can to bring in Godin.
