Champions League Preview: Bayern Munich vs Paris St Germain

“Let’s be realistic: It’s not about winning the group, it’s about the prestige,”

“We want to forget the first leg and show that Bayern not only has a great history; we want to show that we are on equal terms with a team that invested 500 million euros last year and I am very confident that I will be able to give the audience a pleasant evening. ”  Heynckes told his pre-match press conference.

Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes attempted to send out a message of intent ahead of their crucial Champions League clash at home against French giants PSG. The Bavarians are placed second in the group with 12 points with the visitors perched at the top of the table with 15 points.

A win for the hosts would send them right through to the top of the table which is of great importance considering the comparatively favourable seeding in the Round of 16 for table-toppers.

Final Prediction

The clash is expected to be a closely fought out one considering the quality of the sides involved. At the same time, Bayern Munich have always been largely dominant at home over the years which tilts the scales in their favour. Paris St Germain recently suffered a shocking defeat in the Ligue 1 against 16th placed outfit Strasbourg which will do their confidence no good.

PSG striker Edinson Cavani will be expected to continue his fine form in front of goal after scoring 17 goals so far. It will also be foolish to rule out Bayern Munich top-scorer Robert Lewandoski, who can turn the tide with his performances singlehandedly.
