Leicester City are interested in Solomon Kvirkvelia and have made an offer, The Leicester Mercury reports.
Claude Puel, who’s job as Leicester boss may be in doubt following reports the East Midlands outfit are interested in appointing Brendan Rodgers, has clearly identified the defence as an area that needs improving for the 2018/19 season. Understandably so, too, as the Foxes conceded 60 league goals last season, the most of any team in the top half of the Premier League. The former Premier League champions have already confirmed the signing of defender Jonny Evans from West Brom, and reports suggest that they are looking to bolster their defence further with the signing of Solomon Kvirkvelia.
Kvirkvelia is a 26 year-old defender who was ever present in Lokomotiv Moscow’s title winning side last season. The former Rubin Kazan man was at the heart of a Lokomotiv Moscow defence that only conceded a mere 21 goals in 30 league games over the course of last season, which has clearly impressed the Leicester City hierarchy. At international level, Kvirkvelia has appeared 28 times for his country Georgia.
The confirmed signing of Jonny Evans and the interest in Solomon Kvirkvelia may see the likes of defenders Wes Morgan and Yohan Benalouane sweat over their futures at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes marked their intentions early this summer to shake up their defence by confirming that Robert Huth would leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.
