Newly appointed Charlton boss Karl Robinson has admitted that he will be looking to strengthen his squad in January. The Charlton Gaffer is desperate to bring in an attacking midfielder so I look at Three players who the Addicks could potentially target.
Charlton’s biggest threat Ricky Holmes is currently sidelined so Robinson will be more than keen to bring in an attacking midfielder who can get at the opposition and turn One point into Three.
Bradley Dack: Gillingham-
The Gillingham midfielder will be attracting interest from many clubs this January. The young Englishman started his footballing journey at Charlton but made the switch to Gillingham in 2010, after he was realised by the south London side.
He has developed well in Kent and as it stands he has currently played over 100 games for the Gills, scoring 27 goals including a goal against Charlton earlier on in the season. Robinson has been supposedly tracking Dack as he clearly thinks he could be an incredible prospect. Karl even went to watch him in Gillingham’s Clash against Bolton Wanderers but if Robinson is keen on securing the 22 year old’s signature he will need backing from the board as Dack is currently valued around the £750,000 mark.
Ben Reeves: MK Dons-
Ben Reeves could be seen as a cost effective option, after progressing through the Southampton academy, Reeves had short stints at Dagenham and Southend but the Northern Irishman is now settled in Milton Keynes after signing for MK on a free in 2013.
Robinson worked with Reeves for three years that was before he departed stadium MK of course. In those Three years Reeves scored 20 goals in under 100 appearances, he has been very unfortunate with injuries but he is now fully fit and is raring to impress but his chances are limited as he has been left out of the MK side by the new boss Robbie Neilson.
Reeves could link up well with fellow Irishman Josh Magennis. The number 10 is excellent in finding gaps in between defences and that could work well as Charlton have the strikers to exploit those gaps. The Milton Keynes midfielder is valued around the £230,000 mark so he could be well within Charlton’s budget.
Nathan Thomas- Hartlepool:
Nathan Thomas has been watched closely by Charlton over the last few weeks, it has been reported that the Addicks are set to make a bid in January. Hartlepool would be looking for £750,000 before even considering an offer.
Thomas has attracted interest from the likes of QPR, Birmingham and Wolves, so securing the talented midfielder could prove a tough test for the League 1 club. Thomas has set League 2 alight this season he has scored 7 goals in 15 appearances which is rather impressive for a midfielder.
Thomas can operate on the wing and just in behind the striker he loves to get forward and that’s what Robinson is looking for. His versatility makes him stand out from the other players on Karl Robinson’s radar.
