The reason why Liverpool never went back for Thomas Lemar.

Lets go back to May 2017, Monaco had just won their first Ligue 1 title since 2000 over throwing the recent dominance of PSG and reaching the last 4 of the Champions League. Thomas Lemar was one of the hottest properties in football with Liverpool looking like his destination last summer, what a difference a year can make!

Liverpool looked to have a deal sorted for the Frenchman with a medical team ready in place for him to have his medical but the deal broke down as Liverpool’s sporting director Michael Edwards was unable to negotiate a deal that would see the Frenchman make the move from France to the Premier League.

Moving onto this summer and it looks as if Lemar’s stock has significantly dropped as PSG once again took back the French title with Monaco dropping out of the Champions League at the group stage. After the January transfer window it looked as if Liverpool needed to replace Philippe Coutinho and this is something that has resurfaced in this window but Lemar has not been considered. He has now joined Atletico Madrid.

Lemar himself will be happy to have sealed his move as he along with a number of other players had their hear set on a move to Anfield but never materialised. He was given abuse by Monaco fans after they narrowly beat Caen 1-0 in May. His lacklustre performances have saw €100 million bids from the world’s top clubs to him losing his place in the French squad for this summers World Cup in Russia. According to the Echo this put the Anfield club off.

Liverpool did  not go back to Lemar this summer instead going for Fekir another deal that has since fallen through.
