Mexico finished their first match of the 2018 World Cup as unlikely victors against Current Holders Germany in a 1-0 win. While goal-scorer, PSV’s Hirving Lozano name will dominate the headlines tomorrow his name will continue to dominate the pages after the tournament with Manchester United among a host of suitors interested in the wide-man who many fans have affectionaly named “Chucky.”
Who is Lozano?
Mexico’s current World Cup hero Hirving Lozano has already gained a cult following before his exploits at the World Cup. The 22-year old, who plys his trade for Dutch Club PSV Eindhoven was many Football fans one to watch in the Mexico squad.
“Chucky,” who prominently plays as a left winger rose to fame in the Netherlands after netting 17 goals in 29 appearances and in the meantime making a string of near-perfect performances under manager Phillip Cocu.
Lozano, a Mexico City native has similar national traits to his fellow Mexican Countryman. Like the rest of his Mexican team-mates, Lozano has tricky feet, is hard-working and has very clear natural ability.
Yet in some senses, the PSV winger is almost foreign compared to the rest of his International Team-mates. Lozano, as seen against the World Cup Holders has an eye for goal and usually converts his chances no matter the angle. To add many players in the Mexico squad are quick, yet the former Pachuca star is absolutely rapid with and without the ball causing the opposition defence considerable problems.
For the multiple teams linked to the Mexican International Lozano offers considerable versatility. Able to play any position across the front three the 22-year-old could in essensce be 3 signings in one for any potential suitors.
Yet it is clear that Lozano prefers to play on the left side of the pitch, quite often you would see the 5ft 10 Winger sprinting at full tilt at a opposition defence on the left and then, at the opportune moment cutting in putting the ball onto his favoured right foot which has caused teams so much damage in 2017/18.
Many have likened the Mexican star to current Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, in the sense that you know Robben will cut in on his left foot but he cuts in at such speed and with such skill that it is near impossible to defend. A comparison, both the former Chelsea man and current PSV star will take compliment in.
With Manchester United, Bayern Munich and quite surprisinglyy Everton all eyeing a deal for the 22 year-old it is clear PSV have a real battle to keep their Mexican talismann. But should his performances continue at the World Cup and subsequently his price rising even higher the Dutch outfit may have no option but to sell their prized asset.
Currently valued at £25 million expect the price to rise even further after his exploits at the World Cup so far. One fan even affectionally wrote “Lozano’s price must be £100 trillion or something now” after his goal against Germany.
Should Lozano leave PSV? If so where would he go, let us know in the comments below!
