The title says it all right? In the good old days it really was the beautiful but as times have moved on so has the game and to me it’s becoming less and less beautiful.
The first point is the referees: with each passing game a footballer can make a perfectly timed tackle or even a fair challenge to win the ball back and the ref will blow for a foul, I swear refs are just trying to make the game a non contact sport.
My second point is the FA: they still only really only care about the “big clubs” the reason why I say this is, as long as the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are happy all the minions like Bournemouth, Watford, Huddersfield etc don’t really matter.
My third and final point is VAR: yes it has just been introduced to the game, but do really need it? In my opinion no, as it takes all the fun out of debating with other fans if the ref made the right call. But now the refs just seem to go straight to VAR and just look at all the cock ups they have already made in matches. I think if VAR is here to stay I think they should speak to the people in rugby to perfect it.
But then you have the likes of the FA Cup which are still magical and makes me think we still do have the beautiful game, as you have the shocks of the giant killings and there has definitely been some of those over the years and if my memory serves me right there were some shock results in the FA Cup this season with Spurs keep having to have replays.
Then we have goal line technology, which I think is a brilliant idea since Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal against Germany a few years ago, this has improved the game in my opinion.
As you can see there are plenty of reasons why the game has become less beautiful but there are at least 2 reasons why the game is still beautiful and I think if they can perfect certain aspects of the game and let it still be a contact sport then we can still be in love with the game and still call it the beautiful game.
