Team Needs Summer 2021 - Chelsea

4th in the league, FA Cup finalists and a chance to win the Champions League this weekend, what sort of needs would a team have after a season like that? Quite a bit if you are Chelsea!

Thomas Tuchel has been magnificent, rescuing Chelsea’s season to the point of success they’ve achieved. Unfortunately the results since Lampard's departure have shown how bad he was in the role. The talent was stacked within the squad before the big name arrivals last summer. Granted Werner and Havertz especially struggled for form but Lampard seemed clueless in how he should support or shoe horn them into his system. I would even question did Lampard even have a preferred system?
It is not certain if Tuchel will even be in charge this time next year. Winning this Saturday will not define his tenure, at Stamford Bridge continual winning ensures your job position. The next step is for Chelsea to be challenging for the title and surely if they off the pace by Christmas Roman could wield the axe, a long term contract or a recent Champions League win will mean nothing to the Chelsea owner.

Playing wise the major focus will have to be bringing in a new striker, the exciting prospect is their are a few superstars available this summer. Wide forward and number 10's are in abundance, scarily the top scorer in the league was Jorginho (all penalties). Haaland, Lukaka and Kane will all be on the hit list. Outsiders could be Danny Ings or Icardi, any of these players bring goal mouth hustle severely lacking at the club. Giroud's contract is expiring but the future of Abraham is in doubt too, if Kane is the target a sweetener in the form of the young England striker could be a possibility.

Another area of concern will be the centre of defence, Tuchel has made the back line solid but with Thiago not being a long term fix, Rudiger and Christensen's contracts running down next year will they bring in new talent or blood in some of the exceptional young defenders currently out on loan? The form of Tomori & Guehi surely will see them given a chance, you can’t say the same for the majority of the talent on loan elsewhere. Unfortunately to break into the Chelsea squad let alone the starting 11 requires a level of performance and consistency none of the other loanees have shown. If players like Barkley or Loftus Cheek are not sent back out on loan then surely like Abraham they could become a potential make weight within a high value transfer.
If any defenders are brought in Godfrey (Everton), White (Brighton) or Konsa (Villa) domestically could be options while the continually linked to English clubs Koulibaly is another.

Whatever occurs Saturday the transfers for the position groups mentioned above will occur, trophies fuel this club.
