Sunderland are looking at a loan move for West Ham centre back Fredrik Alves.
The 21 year-old join the Hammers on a permanent basis in January for an undisclosed fee that is rumoured to have been close to the £1m mark.
Centre back is a spot that Black Cats manager Lee Johnson will be looking to strengthen after Dion Sanderson’s successful spell at the club they could be looking at yet another young defender from the Premier League.
Alves can play either centre back position and made 12 appearances last season in the Premier League two and was part of the Irons pre-season camps.
However, the move to Sunderland would leave David Moyes with another CB spot at stake with Dawson, Diop and Ogbonna all proving their worth last season.
It is a possibility that another academy player could make the step up with Jamal Baptise being the most possible option.
