Summer Needs 2021 – Leicester City

Winning the FA Cup final leaves the season as a positive one for Foxes fans but the disappointment by missing out on 4th will linger all summer and next season. The club recruits stars and sells on but ultimately they need to start holding onto these men, this occurs by playing in the Champions League. Despite winning the league in 2016 Ranieri is not a patch on Brendan Rodgers as a manager and keeping the former Celtic boss will surely be as important as some of the players.
Transfer activity, incomings and outgoings will determine the clubs standing next season regarding challenging for the top 4 again, defending the FA Cup and even winning the Europa League! If they fail to threaten on any of those levels losing Rodgers to a “BIG” club is a distinct possibility.
The battle this summer will be keeping hold of FA Cup Final MOM Tielemans, standard transfer policy would usually mean he is cashed in on this year. Arguments against would be due to COVID how much will the big clubs spend and if Leicester want to push on as big player domestically. Replacing him will not be easy but then not necessarily it has to be like for like.
PL league winners Fuchs and Morgan will be leaving this summer due to their contracts expiring but they’ve barely played this past season. It will not be a matter of replacing them but adding to the squad. Currently they run off around 18 talented players vying for starting places, this needs to increase by another 5. Tying up Amartey to a longer deal and making Under’s loan deal permanent will be a good start to the summer, otherwise the squad depth required will be greater.
Players in all positions should be brought in but a pressing need is within the forward line. Vardy is the only out and out striker, Perez and Iheanacho prefer to play off the main striker. Edourd from Celtic has been heavily linked and he would be a great signing, different to any other player already at the club plus fits the transfer fee they prefer to pay. A man not mentioned within speculation  but fits so many criteria needs would be bringing in Peterborough’s Siriki Dembele. Main advantage with him coming in too would be he’d not hold an ego to play ASAP.
The recruitment expertise Leicester show makes it hard to speculate on incoming players as the rough diamonds brought in from around Europe at times would not be discovered within FootballManager. When I look around domestic players especially though talent like Ryan Bertrand, Matheus Pereira, Sean or Matt Longstaff, John Lundstram, Craig Forrest, Ben Cabongo and Calum Chambers would all be if added, valued squad members. One name who surely sooner rather than later will appear in the Premier League and why not Leicester is Sven Batman of Lille. The former Ajax defender has received rave reviews this past season and would fit perfectly in the 3 man defence Leicester play. When you play that formation 5 top centre backs are needed on your books.
With Brentford now entering the Premier League, Leicester will encounter a rival to the mantle they hold for transfer gems but they dine on different tables and if the upward trend continues The Foxes may well be signing established stars soon?
