Tottenham have been given a boost in their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish. Spurs had an opening offer of £20 million turned down but are still confident they can lure him from the Midlands to London by 5pm on Thursday.
Following defeat in the play-off final back in May, Villa have had tighten their belts to meet the FFP rules, that has meant the departures of some of last seasons key players like John Terry, Robert Snodgrass and Sam Johnstone but following their injection of cash from two new billionaires they have been able to spend a little bit more to make their squad competitive to challenge at the top end of the league.
It is understood that because of this investment they are now able to hold out for a bigger fee for Grealish. The boost for Spurs is that Villa have won the race to sign Jon McGinn from Hibernian according to TeamTalk and that the player is due in the Midlands any time now to complete his medical after the two sides were able to agree a fee for the player who has attracted a lot of attention this summer.
This news along with the reported interest in Wigan midfielder Nick Powell means that Villa are clearly now preparing for the exit and you feel that if Spurs can give Villa fee that they feel is acceptable then Grealish will move to London and will be playing the in the Premier League. Spurs are yet to making a singing in this window.
