Over the past week, I have been shocked to see Arsenal have shown interest in buying three top players for Manchester City. The players in question are Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus and, my personal favorite, Raheem Sterling. Mind blowing. But what is the likelihood of Arsenal succeeding in bringing down these three quality players from North to South? Let’s have a look. I will also give you my opinion on having them at the Emirates.
Riyad Mahrez – As much as he has helped Manchester City secure 2 Premier League titles, I have to say that for me Mahrez is just above average. I would have rather had the Riyad Mahrez that was playing for Leicester City when they won the title in that unbelievable 2015/16 season. Besides, it would be hard for him to get into the squad as Nicolas Pepe has that right midfield position covered for me. You just have to look at Willian to see the competition. So, for me, I don’t believe Mahrez would even get a chance to play in the first team. Arteta would probably only play him in FA Cup and League Cup games since we have no European matches this season.
Gabriel Jesus – I would only want Jesus at Arsenal if Lacazette were to leave. It is looking likely he will unless he signs a new contract. However, I feel Jesus would struggle to get into the first team with Lacazette and Aubameyang already in it. So, no for me for now, but maybe if Lacazette leaves. Never say never.
Raheem Sterling – Well, this is the big one for me. I’m just going to say it. I would love to have Sterling at Arsenal. For me, he’s England’s best right winger since John Barnes. It would mean moving Pepe to the left and leaving Bukayo Saka on the bench for me, but I feel Sterling could help bring Arsenal back to where we want to be. If only his price tag wasn’t so expensive. If Arsenal were to sign him, I feel we would bust the bank. And we all know the Kroenke’s are massive cheapskates. So, I would love him at Arsenal but I think it’s impossible to get a deal done.
So, there’s my review. I would like to see two out of these three players at Arsenal. But, as mentioned earlier, it would mean spending ridiculous amounts of money. I feel the only way we can get them is if we sell all the players that probably won’t get a chance this season. With reports of Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka moving on with around €20-30 million, we need to make at least another 40 million to complete these deals.
If only Daniel Ek were the owner.
