Another weekend full of football, and due to Liverpool v Manchester United being on last night I thought I’d wait until after to post my Team of the Week. So here we go!
In goal I’ve got Maarten Stekelenburg, this was a difficult choice after a brilliant performance from David De Gea. But Maarten had an even better display after saving two penalties and making two other important saves. He really kept Everton in the game.
This week I found it challenging to pick a back four, so I’ve gone for a back three in Cesar Azpilicueta, Phil Jagielka and Antonio Valencia. Jagielka? I know what you’re thinking but despite giving away 2 penalties he actually had a very good performance, he kept Sergio Aguero quiet, which isn’t easy to do! Valencia had a great game against Liverpool, his main moment came when Firmino was through on goal, but Valencia slid in to intervene. Plus Azpilicueta was key in keeping Chelsea’s clean sheet.
Midfield – I have Alex Iwobi, Joe Allen, Ander Herrera and Junior Stanislas. Iwobi was a real stand out for me, especially with his amazing footwork that put him through on goal, he’s a sensation to watch on the ball. Joe Allen endured a great game as his brace saw off Sunderland, his second goal in particular was brilliant. A great signing for Stoke so it seems. Herrera, who’s making his second appearance in my team of the week, had an excellent game defending his back four. And Stanislas who scored two against Hull in Bournemouth’s 6-1 demolition.
Forwards – Quite an easy one this week, my picks are Theo Walcott, Charlie Austin and Marko Arnautovic. Walcott had another great game scoring two, but really should of bagged four. Despite that, he was outstanding for Arsenal. Charlie Austin makes it into my squad for the second time this season, he’s on fire at the moment. Southampton have found a brilliant hit-man. And Arnautovic, who was key in the Stoke attack. Unlucky not to get himself a goal but did bag himself an assist.
So there it is, another Team of the Week.
