Paulsy’s Premier Picks – Match Week 20

We are past the half way mark of the season but not all teams have fulfilled the games sanctioned, regardless of this fact this next round could determine so many sides fortunes going into the new year, relating to trophy aspirations and transfer targets in the window.

Crystal Palace v Norwich City

This is as good a game as possible for Palace to get back to winning ways at home but a key issue is the loss to suspension in the form of Wilf Zaha! Head Coach Vierra will also be missing so his opposing coach Dean Smith will see this as possible positive points. All being considered its difficult to see Norwich getting any positive results till they play Championship football again. This 3pm is among the hat trick of games in the slot where teams require a decisive result but of the three its the most pressing. If a second goal is scored in this match that team will win the game.

Bet Select – Crystal Palace win

Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur

St Mary’s needs to be rocking on Tuesday otherwise the well rested Spurs under the tutelage of Conte will destroy their side. Harry Kane is entering some sort of form and you can’t see the Saints backline stopping him. The West Ham win is a massive plus for Southampton but they rode their luck and the energetic lilywhites  are built to counter attack. Heart and desire is needed by the home side like Boxing Day, the scary thing is Spurs can score quick goals and a nil nil game can turn into losing two nil within a blink.

Watford v West Ham

Welcome back to the PL Watford your first game back is against  a wounded animal in the form of the Hammers. If Dennis plays then he is the best forward on the pitch and most likely match winner. Guys like Benrahama, Lanzina & Fornals are technically better but the Watford man has a hunger and desire to make things happen, this trait is the secret sauce, it cannot be coached.

One for your FPL – Emmanuel Dennis £6m

Bet Select – West Ham win

Leicester City v Liverpool

The game of the day rounds off the Tuesday action, fingers crossed its a goal fest like The Foxes previous game against Man City or the League Cup meeting last week. Van Dijk is back but it will be interesting to see how he is physically after COVID, the pace and nimbleness Leicester’s forwards possess is always a test for PL defences. With AFCON approaching Salah and Mane will want to leave knowing the team are still in the title shake up, this though is a banana skin.

One for your FPL – James Maddison £6.8m

Bet Select – Leicester City win

Chelsea v Brighton & Hove Albion

Both teams on Boxing Day returned to winning ways, the heroic defending Brighton showed against Brentford will be needed again as Lukaku is in a bullying mood. Tuchel will surely rotate the lineup but the squad depth is elite and its performances not the standard of player which hinders results for Chelsea. Its hard to see Brighton taking anything away from this match up, the hosts are superior on so many levels and the individual match ups around the pitch are one sided. If Reece James plays it will be fun seeing him compete with Cucurella, two full backs who like to push their counterpart back.

One for your FPL – Mason Mount £7.7m

Bet Select – Chelsea win to nil

Brentford v Manchester City

Brentford are massively depleted due to injuries and suspension, facing the imperious City is not needed right now, could this be the first PL game which hits double digits? David v Goliath comes to mind and I have no doubt the Brentford analysts will be working on a weakness City may have, the issue is getting past their multitude of strengths to attack the weakness. The hosts stone is Ivan Toney, he out muscles any defender, Dias will want to take him on but its more likely the striker will want to match himself up with either fullback. Despite the kick off time the fans will make sure The Community Stadium is rocking as always, whether its a memorable result for the home side is a big doubt but the City Stars will bring the football joy for sure.

One for your FPL – Raheem Sterling £10.6m

Bet Select – Man City win and over 4.5 goals

Everton v Newcastle United

Thursday night kicks off with this six pointer, Newcastle’s performance on Monday night v Man Utd will be a positive to take into this battle but a scrappy one nil win is all they need here. Injuries to Wilson & Saint-Maximin severely weakens their chances and Everton’s grow with the return of Calvert-Lewin. Joelinton will spear head the Newcastle attacking hopes and will look to attack Coleman at right back. By the end of next week The Geordies may have a few new squad members, a away win in this game will be the perfect welcome present.

Manchester United v Burnley

Like the previous round of fixtures United close this one playing a side deep in trouble, Rangnick was disappointed Monday with his team, surely he will shake it up as more dropped points will be a disaster. Cavani after his Monday goal will start, he is a different class and its a shame he came to England so late in his career. Cornet remains the main attacking hope for Burnley but this game may be too soon for him as he builds up to full fitness. Martial wants to leave Utd, a club like Burnley would love to have him as a option in their squad, over the course of January they need to think outside of the box regarding possible incomings. Relegation has never been more likely for The Clarets since their promotion than this year, they seem to be sleep walking into it.

One for your FPL – Charlie Taylor £4.4m

Bet Select – Man Utd win and over 2.5 goals

If you really love a one game outsider Brentford are 20/1 to beat City on Wed but otherwise if you follow my bet selects above the acca works out at 9592.82/1, good luck and enjoy this next round of festive footy fun.
