Paulsy’s Premier Pick – Match Week 15

After a fascinating week of fixtures on Amazon Prime the weekend kicks off with Chelsea looking to maintain their strangle hold on top of the league:

West Ham United v Chelsea

The Hammers are without a win in three games but facing one of their London rivals is just how The London Stadium would like that run to end. If in the process it causes Chelsea issues in their pursuit of the Premier League title then that’s a double bonus. Both squads are polar opposites, one has a abundance of talent while the other runs off a rigid unit who undeniably may be running on empty due to the accomplishments over the last few season and half. Match up wise both attacks will fancy their chances in causing the opposing defences issues. The deciding factor will surely be the crowd, if the home fans are blowing bubbles they could prove to be decisive.

BET SELECT – West Ham win

Newcastle United v Burnley

Its now or never to grab a win for Eddie Howe, how sweet would it be against one of his former sides? Burnley showed against Brentford a few weeks ago they can be clinical in front of goal with Cornet and Woods leading the line so any ultra expansive style of play by Newcastle could be like playing Russian Roulette. The Clarets love to defend and epitomise Sean Dyche as a footballer. Games like this Burnley will take the draw now, one more step toward safety. Allan Saint-Maximin needs to perform on Saturday like everyone knows he can, men behind the ball take the clean sheet and let the Frenchman shine.

BET SELECT – Newcastle win

Southampton v Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton’s difficulty in scoring goals continues to hamper their dominance in possession, surely they must be kicking themselves they did not look to bring in either of the Saints lead men, Che Adams or Adam Armstrong. Neither are world beaters but within a weak Saints team score more than Maupay does for the Seagulls, well they make the most of their chances. Both managers in this fixture surely are in the last season at their current clubs, the trajectory is up for them with jobs like Everton, Man Utd and Leicester potentially becoming available in the next year. Brighton won the last fixture in March at St Marys and I fully expect a odd goal victory this time.

BET SELECT – Southampton win and over 2.5 goals

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool

Jota returns to Molineux and he is going to enjoy his day, the complimentary piece alongside Salah & Mane will feast off Coady. The Liverpool front three are frightening and can progress from the half way line to the box in no time, assisted by the midfield and full backs. Wolves have surprised me this season by being so high up the table but if they continue to average 0.9 goals scored and conceded those two recent nil nil draws will more often than not turn into defeats. Unless the home crowd can impact the game which with a experienced side like Liverpool is unlikely you fear the scoreboard could be run up high, especially if Chelsea lose earlier in the day.

Watford v Manchester City

Vicarage Road loves a game under the floodlights but unlike the Red Devils who visited a few games ago this Manchester side are a whole different prospect. The defending champions have lost a couple already but they are hitting some form domestically and abroad right now. Emmanual Dennis is collecting all the plaudits this term when it was expected to be Sarr and he may offer some trouble to the City backline but Bernando Silva is the lead talent at the moment. It’s scary to think that currently City are missing KDB, Foden and Grealish but it bodes well they will be back soon for this busy December.

Leeds United v Brentford

Elland Road sucked the side along on Tuesday to the victory over Palace and more of the same will be needed against a plucky Brentford team. Unlucky to lose on Thursday to Spurs the Bees are like a NFL side preparing for opponents weeks in advance and will have a game plan ready for Bielsas side. Former players Dallas and Forshaw for Leeds & Jansson for Brentford will be desperate for the W! Its more likely the teams will nullify each other in the pursuit for victory, one moment of magic is the only chance one side will win. Could it be Mbuemo whom seems due a multi goal game soon or the ever impressive Raphinha?

Manchester United v Crystal Palace

Palace boss Viera made his name at Arsenal battling at times against the entire Utd midfield, he now faces a hefty tactical battle with new Manchester manager Rangnick. Now with the German in charge its scary to think what the massive squad at Utd can achieve. When players come off the bench they are sometimes better than the ones who started the game. Palaces youth and pace will keep The Red Devils honest for long periods but its hard to see gaps not appearing in the vast Old Trafford pitch for Ronaldo & crew to take advantage of. Zaha has been ineffective for a few games now, he holds all the attacking threat for Palace.

FPL PLAYER TO WATCH – Alex Telles £5m

BET SELECT – Man Utd win

Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City

Conte seems to be having a effect on his team, periods on Thursday they was outplayed but the press was prominent and kept them in the game at all times. As i have stated in previous previews the Kane goals are coming and a home game against the Canaries seems ideal. Considering new Norwich boss Dean Smith was a defender his previous sides have never been known for defending their goal well, this is not a good sign for a team who can call up Grant Hanley or Ben Gibson to play, this is a dream come true for the cavalcade of Spurs forwards. Norwich come across as a good middleweight boxer competing with heavyweights, they have a punching chance every game but that’s it.

FPL PLAYER TO WATCH – Sergio Reguilon £5.2m

BET SELECT – Spurs win

Aston Villa v Leicester City

I love the storyline in this game Gerrard v Rodgers, they have served as player and manager plus both hold allegiances to Rangers & Celtic. Leicester have scored six goals in the last two matches and will test Mings and pals to the maximum, even more so than City this midweek. Pace and tenacity from the front to the back with a sprinkle of quality in midfield with Tielmens gives them a inconsistent level of play but when it hits home they can beat anyone. Villas best hope is if they can match the away side for goals which means Watkins & Ings need to prove why as recently as the last year why they played for England.

FPL PLAYER TO WATCH – Ollie Watkins £7.4m

BET SELECT – Over 2.5 goals

Everton v Arsenal

The weekend ends on Monday night, defeat at home could end in Rafa saying Bye Bye? Its not nice for anyone to lose their job but the former Liverpool gaffer was never welcomed warmly by Goodison Park it was always a case of him walking on hot coals. Arsenals defeat on Thursday could have easily been a draw or win, small margins change games. Demari Gray is starting to fulfil his early career promise and will once again be the led threat for Everton, could he challenge for a England squad? Smith Rowe is one of the players holding a England spot right now, his energetic bursts cause defences problems down to the fact he plays with no fear. Intriguing game which could set the tone for both teams seasons going forward.
