Napoli Owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis says he is confident that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will complete a move for Italian midfielder Jorginho, despite lengthy negotiations, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Having knocked back Manchester City’s initial offer of £40 million for the Italian international, Napoli have indicated their interest in a price closer to £60 million for the ex-Verona man. Talks between the two European heavyweights have spanned across a period of some weeks, with an official fee yet to be agreed.
De Laurentiis has suggested that the two outfits have become more accommodating in recent days and he remains assured that he expects a deal to be wrapped up shortly.
Manchester City have already agreed personal terms with the player and his representatives but have been made to bide their time regarding the fee for the midfielder, who made 39 appearances, scoring 4 times in all competitions for last seasons Serie A runners-up.
“I spoke with City bosses on Thursday and they are now speaking with (Napoli sporting director) Cristiano Giuntolli” De Laurentiis told Corriere Dello Sport.
“We must reach an agreement. I showed willing and went to meet the English executives.”
He added: “In such cases, if one person takes a step back, the other must take a step forward. But there are more than concrete possibilities that it will soon be sorted.”
Napoli had hoped a bidding war would occur around the future of Jorginho, however former coach Maurizio Sarri’s drawn-out departure has left City in pole position to sign the Italian, with interest from other outfits lacking.
