Let me start with the second saddest news of my life (Won’t share the first as that’s a personal thing). After a 20 year career at Barcelona, my favorite footballer of all time, Lionel Messi, is leaving Camp Nou this summer.
For as long as I’ve lived, Messi has been at Barcelona. After all that time, when Barcelona lost 8-2 to Bayern Munich, I first heard Messi was pushing for a move. Then I hear he’s signing a new contract just over 2 months ago. But today, I have been re-informed and shocked to see that the departure is officially happen. I have enjoyed he’s time there. If things had gone different in 2020, I’m sure he would have happily retired at Camp Nou.
Where will he go next? Who knows. As an Arsenal fan, I would love it to happen but I’m one hundred percent saying that we will probably never see Messi play at the Emirates. I feel, personally, it’s time for him to hang up the boots. Just like the Undertaker at Survivor Series after 30 long years in the WWE. Slowly, but surely, my childhood is coming to an end. No more Undertaker and I feel no more Messi will be coming.
So, if this is the end of his career, I thank Lionel for being my favorite football superstar of all time. I wish him nothing but the best.
Other shocking news as it has been confirmed (at the time of writing this article) that Manchester City have officially signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for £100,000,000. I have not seen a fee for a British player that high since Gareth Bale to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur.
Now, like Mat Ryan and Alex Runaarson to Arsenal last season, this came out of the blue for me. I honestly never thought Grealish would ever leave Aston Villa. Alongside Arsenal, I also have a great support for Villa as they were the first team I saw on television. So, to see they’re best player since Heskey leave for the current Premier League champions for a massive fee, I must admit I was completely gobsmacked.
I wish Jack Grealish every bit of success at the Etihad. As a record breaking transfer, he better make an instant impact in Manchester. Unlike Pogba to Manchester United for £90,000,000.
Whilst we’re on the subject of transfers, I will quickly summarize the three new Arsenal signings which are Ben White from Brighton, Nuno Tavares from Benfica and Albert Sambi-Lokonga from Anderlacht.
I’m happy to have them. Hopefully, Houssem Auoar and Martin Odegaard/James Maddison are next.
