Manchester City 2-1 Arsenal: Player Ratings.

Manchester City:

GK; Bravo- 6

Couldn’t do much about Arsenal’s goal. Apart from that, the goalkeeper didn’t have an opportunity to make a save. Distribution was fairly good with a 71% pass accuracy.

LB; Clichy- 6.75

Looked out of position and nervy in the early stages of the first half. However recovered and wasn’t really challenged at all after Arsenal’s very early dominance. Passing improved as the game went on and won many aerial battles.

CB; Kolarov- 6.5

Was completely torn apart by Alexis Sanchez’s ball that cut him out of the game and allowed Walcott to score. Apart from that wasn’t really challenged and dealt with Giroud comfortably.

CB; Otamendi- 7

Same as above with the goal, completely caught off guard by the through ball by Sanchez. His distribution from the back was very good with a high passing accuracy of 88%. Won many aerial battles also and dealt with Giroud comfortably.

RB; Zabaleta- 5 (Sagna 45′)

Struggled to deal with Iwobi when he was run at. Didn’t look at full fitness to me and was consequently subbed off at half time.

LM; De Bruyne- 8* MOTM (Iheanacho 84′)

Was at fault for Arsenal’s goal when he allowed Bellerin to run past him when he should of shown more defensive commitment to the team. However cut Arsenal’s defence open with a brilliant ball from the left hand side to find Sterling who narrowly missed. In the second half then produced one of the ball’s of the season switching the play from left to right to find Sterling once more to get an deserved assist. During the game he ran the show and was a constant threat to Arsenal’s puzzled defence.

CM; Silva- 7

Was almost invisible during the first half, really struggling to get into the game. However second half he was a complete pest to Arsenal’s defence with his crisp passing and movement. Fantastic ball to find Sane over the top of Arsenal’s defence to grab himself an assist.

CDM; Fernando- 7

Solid performance, did a lot of the stuff that goes unnoticed. Made some important tackles and was a needed wall in front of City’s backline. Passing was very good for a defensive midfielder boasting a 90% pass accuracy.

CM; Toure- 7

Was restricted in the first half, finding himself in deeper areas of the field. However in the second half he got forward a lot more and looked a real threat. Was a real outlet in the second half, having the most touches on the field overall. Good to see him back.

RM; Sane- 7.25 (Navas 76′)

Struggled to get in the game for much of the contest. However looked a little livelier during the second half just like a lot of his teammates. Took his goal brilliantly with a great turn and a neat finish in the left corner of the net. Showed glimpses of his much talked about high potential.

ST; Sterling-  7.75

Missed a golden opportunity to score in the first five minutes when he had a free header but it went narrowly wide. However took his goal brilliantly in a sensational city move. Showed real encouraging signs playing as a false 9 but still obviously has a lot to learn.

Sagna- 6

Navas- 6.25

Iheanacho- 6

GK; Cech- 5.75

Made a couple of expected saves. Got beaten for both goals at his near post which he would of been disappointed with but will be let off extreme criticism because of the quality of each finish. Distribution however was unexpectedly poor.

LB; Monreal- 6.25

Did okay. Was beaten far too easily though for Sterling’s goal but apart from that didn’t do much else wrong.

CB; Koscielny- 6.5

For a man of his quality, the Frenchman at times looked lost without his usual partner Mustafi. Did regain control and made a couple of well timed challenges. But still he will look back at this game as a very poor performance by him.

CB; Gabriel- 5.75

Performances like this really make you question whether he is good enough to play at this football club. Looking all over the place at times and having to be rescued by his partner.

RB: Bellerin- 6

Played a big part in Arsenal’s goal bombing forward from the back. But never got the opportunity to do it again in the 90 minutes. Defensively wasn’t at his best either.

CDM; Xhaka- 5.75

Had no real impact on the game and was dispossessed a few times. Arsenal fans yet to be convinced by their summer signing.

CDM; Coquelin- 6 (Giroud 75′)

Made some needed tackles. Won a few aerial duels. Passing however was poor throughout.

LW; Iwobi- 6.25

Had a bit of joy during the first half, really troubling Zabaleta with his pace looking like a potential threat. But faded out of the game and made some poor decisions on the ball being dispossessed or giving the ball away on a couple of occasions when the counter attack was on.

CAM; Ozil- 4

Just invisible. Hardly getting noticeable touches on the ball and when he did he was quickly dispossessed. Caused no danger to City and continues to under perform in the big games.

RW; Walcott- 6.5

Took his goal really well with a great finish that left Bravo with no chance. Apart from that though didn’t do anything of note else. Struggling to get on the ball and looked isolated when he did.

ST; Sanchez- 7

Produced a world class drag back ball to find Walcott to pick up another assist. He looked a threat early on but quickly became isolated and ineffective. Showed a lot of desire and commitment throughout, that his teammates seriously need to replicate.

Chamberlain (Elneny 78′)- 4

Giroud- 5.25

Elneny- 5.25
