Maxi Gomez: The hotly contested striker considered Luis Suarez’s successor

The summer transfer window is currently open resulting in media reports of extraordinary transfer deals involving popular players like Neymar, Mattias De Ligt being on the rise.
An average football fan is more than familiar with the regular rumours surrounding those considered the best in the business. However, the player who has actually grabbed everyone’s attention following an intense tussle between English club West Ham and Spanish outfit Valencia for his services is none other than Maxi Gomez.
The 22-year-old who plays for Celta Vigo in the La Liga has been the subject of a 50 million Euro’s bid, which is his buyout clause from the English club. Valencia, on the other hand, have opted to offer striker Santi Mina along with a sizeable sum for the striker’s services.
Such concrete interest from clubs which have traditionally been reluctant customers in the transfer market certainly begets a second look at Gomez.
The Uruguay striker has been hailed as Luis Suarez’s successor in the national team and the country’s next big  superstar. The player who made a move to Celta Vigo just a couple of seasons back from Defensor Sporting for a sum as low as €4.3m has been hailed as enjoying one of the best goal-scoring record amongst La Liga players still in their twenties.
Gomez is capable of retaining the ball very skillfully with the frantic waving of his arms, pushing defenders with great strength. He is aggressive and strong just like Suarez but can be considered an even better prospect in the air. Many experts have gone on record to hail him as one of the best at scoring headed goals, amongst players in all of Europe’s top five leagues making it all the more impressive.
Not only this, he is also extremely deadly with both his feet with his ability to score from outside the box improving at a steady pace as well. The 22-year-old is extremely strong mentally having moved to Defensor Sporting at the tender age of 15. He also enjoys a strong desire to prove himself in Europe having rejected a lucrative offer from Chinese Super League side Bejing Gouan.
With the recent departure of Marko Arnautovic, West Ham are in desperate need of a striker capable of sending a shudder down the spine of the opposition. Gomez might well be the perfect addition in the current scenario.
Valencia, on the other hand, are on the lookout for a possible replacement for striker Rodrigo who has been linked with a move to Serie A giants Napoli.
West Ham are currently in the lead for the striker’s services having submitted a bid for his buyout clause. However, Valencia are threatening to reject a deal for Santi Mina in case the Uruguay based footballer does not make his way to the Mestalla.
Fans are certainly in for an exciting saga this summer.
