Arsenal signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle on 17th july 2014 for an undisclosed fee. He immediately made it to the starting XI and was seen as a perfect replacement for Bacary sagna who moved out of the club on a free to Manchester city.

The France international was expected to perform well at Arsenal after his fine form for Newscastle the previous season and he lived up to that expectation until he got injured Vs Manchester city Chich caused the emergence of Hector Bellerin who has proved to be a better defender than Mathieu debuchy even at his young age. Since he got injured Vs city he has been surprisingly prone to injuries which usually keeps him away from the team for a period of time.

The 31-year-old made his first Gunners appearance since November 2015 in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth, starting in place of injured Hector Bellerin and inexperienced Carl Jenkinson. This was supposed to be a chance for the 31-year-old to get back to the starting line-up, but a hamstring injury forced him off
after 16 minutes. An injury which looks serious and could keep him out for a minimum of 4-5 weeks.

So, the big question is ‘Is Debuchy’s time up at Arsenal?’

Considering that Hector Bellerin is still young and active, Mathieu debuchy has a slim chance of getting back into the starting line-up and injuries have also made that chance even slimmer. Mathieu Debuchy is a strong and agile defender who would fit into any team, but at Arsenal injuries has killed his dreams and the emergence of Bellerin makes it even worse.

I just hope he finds a new club, stay free from injuries and gets playing time.
