The game between Macclesfield Town and Gateshead Football Club will take place at Moss Road on tuesday, the 28th of February. With both teams in desperate need of a win, will the pressure get the better of them? Or will both teams stay composed and do their fans proud? Only time will tell.
Macclesfield Town, managed by John Askey, currently sit 9th in the Vanarama National League, on 53 points out of 32 games. The Silkmen came out the victors against Eastleigh yesterday, after a Rhys Browne volley clinched a 1-0 win. That’s 2 wins on the bounce for the boys in blue. However, things haven’t always been as bright as this, earlier in the season they dropped 3 vital points away at Maidstone United which inevitably resulted in outrage at the club, after conceding a stroppy 89th minute winner, yet again. Although they lack goals, Macclesfield have one of the best defensive records in the league, conceding just 31 goals. Will they concede any next tuesday?
Neil Aspin’s men have been in fine form as of late, winning 4 consecutive games and only 1 defeat in the league this year. Although Gateshead sit just 1 point outside of the promotion play-offs, they have played much more games than the teams surrounding them, which could cause to be costly. Danny Johnson has bagged 15 for the tynesiders this season, making him 5th top scorer in the league. Averaging around 750 home fans per game, the Heed Army has been growing immensely since the 2010 season. With 2 back to back 3-1 wins, could Gateshead do it again against Macclesfield and continue their incredible winning streak?
Although The Silkmen have the home advantage, i think Gateshead will come away from this fixture as the victors. Macclesfield have struggled against top 6 opposition all season, so i don’t think things will suddenly change for this game. So, with Gateshead being the favourites, i’m going for a 2-1 away win. Danny Johnson and Wes York getting on the score sheet.
