What a result for the Grecians on the road, getting back to winning ways. After last Saturdays 3-3 home draw to Yeovil Town. City were 3-0 down going into the last 5 minutes and ended up somehow getting a point from the game. Istanbul rang a few bells, I must admit.
The Grecians found themselves trailing again today, after Mal Benning put the host ahead after 39 minutes. The goal came after a brilliant ball over the top by Joel Byrom which Wrong- footed the City fullback Pierce Sweeney, 1-0 Stags. The Grecians were very lucky to only be 1 down at the break as quite frankly it was all Mansfield first half.
But, second half. Totally different story, it was all City from the get go. And the Grecians kept pushing and pushing, I must admit it felt like it wasn't going to be City's day. After the clock struck 59, when Troy Brown kept the ball alive across the box and there was Jack Stacey lurking from 6 yards out but somehow Kristian Pearce magnificently cleared the ball from the 6yard box to deny Stacey a certain goal.
70th minute, Stacey was in one-on-one but the Stags keeper Kean stayed strong to deny the Reading loanie. But then 84 minutes on the clock, Ryan Harley equalised for the Grecians. City sub Reuben Reid knocked the ball down into the path of Jake Taylor who played the ball through to the goalscorer Ryan Harley who lashed home from 12 yards out past Kean. 1-1.
Stoppage time was looming, every fan looking at the board which said 6minutes added time! Both teams attacking, going for the 3 points which could prove vital come May. And it looked like the home side would take all 3 when Ben Whiteman' shot looked destined for the back of the net but City shot-stopper Christy Pym had other ideas and clawed it away from the City goal.
Pym then alert City could still win this, suddenly the ball found City substitute the experienced Matt Oakley, who pin pointed a perfect ball over the top for another city sub, Reuben Reid to chase. Reid got onto the end of it and ran into the penalty area where the former argyle man was clearly fouled by Rhys Bennett, penalty City. Reuben to step up to take all 3 points back to Devon.
