Manchester United look set to miss out on La Liga defender Diego Godin as he enters the final year of his contract

Having caught a lot of attention with his performances in this summer’s World Cup in Russia, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, as reported by Teamtalk.

With the defender entering the final year of his contract he can leave the club for as little €20m this summer which has seen a number of clubs ready on standby to approach the Uruguayan international should he wish to leave the Spanish outfit.

However, reports from Mundo Deportivo have suggested that the Spanish club are currently working on a new deal to try keep him at the Wanda Metropolitano.

This will come as a big blow for Manchester United with Jose Mourinho eager to improve his defensive options for the upcoming season and having been rumoured to have already contacted the players agent this summer to tempt the Uruguayan defender to the Premier League.

Reports have also suggested that Serie A outfit Juventus look to have an interest in Godin as defender Daniele Rugani is looking likely to complete his move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
