There is yet another promotion ‘6 pointer’ today as 6th placed Leeds United take on 3rd place Reading FC at Elland Road this evening. Both teams are doing very well this season, especially in contrast to what people were expecting them to do this season. This is in no small fact down to their managers, one of whom was one of the best centre backs to ever play in the premier league, who struck fear into oppositions strikers hearts…the other was Jaap Stam.
The whites come into this clash on the back of a disappointing 2-0 loss to to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex on Friday. During that clash young midfielder Kalvin Phillips was sent off for deliberately handling the ball on the goal line, a massive blow to an already crippled United midfield. This forces Garry Monk into a difficult decision to either rush back the clubs captain, Liam Bridcutt, from injury or start Matt Grimes who it’s safe to say has been far from great this season. The whites will believe they have a great chance to beat Reading tonight after beating Villa last time out at Elland Road and having only lost 1 of the last 9 games played at home.
Royals fans will want to watch out for Kemar Roofe playing in the number 10 role who bagged his first Leeds goal against Aston Villa last time out at Elland Road and talismanic centre back Pontus Jansson who is one of the best centre backs in the league.

Reading will be feeling pretty ecstatic about how the season has gone so far with The Royals flying high in 3rd place. Jaap Stam has got his team playing beautiful Barcelona-esque football and the club are now firm contenders for a play-off place at the end of the season. Reading are also struggling with injuries in the centre of the park with Stephen Quinn and the frankly brilliant John Swift both missing out through injury. After beating promotion candidates Sheffield Wednesday last time out the players will be high on confidence and really feel they can push the West Yorkshire giants tonight.
Whites fans will want to watch out for wingers Beerens who scored 2 goals against Sheffield Wednesday and at the back Liam Moore has been a brick wall since arriving from premier league champions Leicester City in the summer.
I feel that this game will be decided by the 2 defences – both have been in excellent form and it is very hard to choose between the two sides. I personally believe the game will finish 1-0 to Leeds with the Whites top scorer Chris Wood scoring the goal.
