The warning signs are there for Arsenal after another horrific defeat to a top six club, losing to Liverpool by four goals to nil. As spectacular, mesmerizing and easy on the eye Liverpool’s fabulous football was, Arsenal were hopeless. They looked nervous and showed a real lack of belief and confidence. The pressure is now piling on Wenger, yet again.

Arsenal: (3-5-2-1)

GK- Cech 8= Pulled of some smart saves throughout, especially the one to deny Salah early on from close range.

CB- Holding 3=Looked really out of his depth and was nowhere near his man Firmino for the opener.

CB- Koscienly 4.5= Poor but isn’t helped by the fact he’s their only experienced centre back available as Mustafi has clearly fallen out with Wenger.

CB- Monreal 4= He’s a left back. Why’s he playing centre back I’ll never understand.

LWB- Bellerin 3= Had an absolute shocker, kept being dispossessed and it was his error for the game ending third goal when he was dispossessed by Salah. However, he was played out of position. I think we all know he’s not a LWB.

CM-Ramsey 4= Poor, overrun in midfield by Liverpool’s far superior midfield. Unsurprisingly replaced by Coquelin after half time.

CM- Xhaka 3= Terrible. He lacks discipline, picking up yet another yellow card, and also did nothing on the ball. He certainly isn’t the midfield enforcer Arsenal desperately need, with him not making one tackle all game.

RWB- Oxlade-Chamberlain 4= Very ineffective, never got forward and didn’t look any sort of threat. It’s likely that’ll be his last Arsenal game.

CAM- Ozil 3= I’m as far from an Arsenal fan as possible, but it even infuriates me at how lazy and poor he is in big games for The Gunners. He doesn’t care about the fans, but yet they still chant the lyrics ‘I just don’t think you understand, he’s Arsene Wenger’s man, he’s better than Zidane’. You’re right I don’t understand how he should even be mentioned in the same sentence as a great like Zidane.

CAM- Sanchez 5= In these big games last season it was usually him that picked the team up and carried the side when others weren’t pulling their weight. However, this looked a very different Sanchez. His reaction at being substituted gave a good indication that his days at Arsenal football club are clearly numbered.

ST- Welbeck 6.5= Put a shift in and showed that he cares, which was not something any of his team mates bar Cech did. Endless running and threatened the Liverpool defence once by almost going through early on. However, his passion and drive don’t make up for the lack of service from team mates and his poor finishing.

Subs:

  • Coquelin (46 mins replaced Ramsey) 5= Came on as he needed to replace Ramsey who was having a shocker.
  • Lacazette (62 mins replaced Chamberlain) 5= It amazes me why Lacazette wasn’t starting. Looked a threat against Leicester and Stoke. The Frenchman is likely to be frustrated at not starting.
  • Giroud (62 mins replaced Sanchez) 5= Came on for Sanchez. Wasn’t needed, and Sanchez reaction to being subbed off said it all.

Liverpool: (4-3-3)

GK- Karius 5= Didn’t have any saves to make but his overconfidence on the ball would worry me as a fan, especially as he was lucky a few times when Welbeck chased him down not to concede.

LB- Moreno 7.5= When I saw his name on the team sheet I was concerned for Liverpool’s defence, but I was proved wrong as he put on a very good performance. A constant threat down the left-hand side and his deliveries were superb all game.

CB- Lovren 7.5= Solid performance and put in some crunching challenges, looked solid on the ball also. He continues to improve after his shaky start to his Liverpool career.

CB- Matip 8= Top performance from a top centre back. Seems as if you can always rely on him in a one on one situation as his positioning and tackling is superb.

RB- Gomez 7= Promising start from the youngster, was a threat down the right continuously and provided a brilliant assist for the first goal with a ball in from the right.

CM- Can 8= Superb. An absolute wall in the reds defence and his passing range was fantastic too. He’s certainly proved the doubters wrong and cemented his name in the Liverpool starting eleven.

CM- Wijnaldum 7= Usual stuff from a top midfielder, wasn’t spectacular but everything he did do he did right. Good on the ball and his passing accuracy is phenomenal.

CM- Henderson 7.5= His determination and passion was shown from the outset. He was first to every ball and captained his side to a fantastic performance. His clear leadership qualities do spark a debate for him to be in the running for the next England captain.

LW- Mane 9= Excellent performance. He was a constant nuisance to Arsenal’s defence with his pace and skill. His goal to put Liverpool 2-0 up was fantastic to witness, a real trademark Sadio Mane goal expressing all his wonderful attributes.

ST- Firmino 8.5= Lead the line superbly, heading in the first goal and then setting up Mane’s second just moments later. His constant running and bringing others into play is a key quality he certainly has. Very underrated in my opinion.

RW- Salah 9 *= Man of the match. It’s a defence’s nightmare when you have this guy on top form and he certainly was on it today. His pace getting in behind Arsenal’s defence was a common theme. However, he doesn’t just have pace in his game, he showed today he can finish with a curled effort in a one on one situation to beat Cech in a one on one situation. Then he emphasises his creative attributes by curling in a delicious delivery splitting The Gunners defence open and on to Sturridge’s head for the fourth and final goal.

Subs:

  • Sturridge (74 mins replaced Mane) 7.5= Great header for the fourth goal.
  • Milner (80 mins replaced Firmino) 6= Came on for the impressive Firmino, and he didn’t have to do much.
  • Grujic (83 mins replaced Can) N/A
