Why Liverpool shouldn't sell Clyne

Yesterday the latest transfer in the rumour mill was Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Nathaniel Clyne as a permanent replacement for Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna. As a Liverpool fan, i really didn't want to believe this rumour. I rate Nathaniel very highly and very rarely has a bad game. After having Glen Johnson (who is currently being linked to Barcelona!) as right-back for a few years, Clyne is dream to have in the squad.

Clyne joined Liverpool in July 2015 for £12.5 million and since then has held down first team football, given there isn't much competition for the right-back spot but non the less, he has been brilliant for the Merseyside outfit. So when i heard that City we're interested i wasn't entirely happy about it. We finally have a decent back 4 and this comes about. Who would we replace him with? for me he's the second best right-back in league after Hector Bellerin. But would Arsenal really be willing to let him join the reds? Thats even if we are interested in him. So i came up with a list of right-backs that could be a reasonable replacement should we sell Clyne.

Daniel Carvajal- Real Madrid                                                                                                                                           Hector Bellerin- Arsenal                                                                                                                                                    Serge Aurier- Paris Saint-Germain                                                                                                                                 Elseid Hysaj- Napoli                                                                                                                                                           Alessandro Florenzi- Roma                                                                                                                                               Tin Jedvaj- Bayer Leverkusen                                                                                                                                          Felix Passlack- Borussia Dortmund

All could be very decent replacements, and if City do fork out £35m for Clyne, these players are all around that price tag, if not less.

Anyway, in a personal opinion i think Klopp would be silly to get rid of such a talent. He's easily one of the best players and of huge value to the club. He's gone from strength to strength under Klopp, not that he didn't play well under Brendan Rodgers but he's really developed in the past year. A lot of people slate Clyne, the main criticism of him is "if he's so good, why does Kyle walker get the nod ahead of him in the England line up?" Admittedly Walker is brilliant, but without me being biased, I'd play Clyne ahead of him. Both have high work rates and create plenty of chances, but i feel Walker makes a fair few mistakes and lacks confidence in front of goal given the opportunity, not that scoring goals is his soul purpose but should be able to take chances. Nathaniel Clyne is the obvious choice.

But todays papers are now linking him to Barcelona, who are willing to pay £20m for the England fullback. Never sure how true any rumours are but still £20m isn't enough to drag him away from Anfield. Barcelona wouldn't be a good move in my eyes, he'd more than likely go to waste and sit on the bench, like Paco Alcácer who was playing first team football at Valencia but now sits on the bench week in week out for the Catalans.

For me, we shouldn't sell him. To valuable to us. we can't become a selling club, we'll never win anything if we do. The money we get for him might be tempting, but i really don't believe that money is everything in football. Anyway, what do other LFC fans think? Let me know your opinions, tweet me @Avalanche94__
