Liverpool open the new campaign with a win over Norwich

Finally the new Premier League Season has come, and Liverpool started the new Premier League Season with a comfortable win at Anfield, with a 4-1 triumph over Norwich. Anfield was buzzing since the men in Red walked out onto the pitch, and it got even better once the whistle blew to kick off the new season.

It didn’t take long for Liverpool to take the lead, with good work on the left side from Origi, to get a cross into to the Norwich penalty area and the ball was put in the Norwich net by Hanley for an own goal in the 7th minute of the match. Norwich had couple of chances in the first half that made Liverpool wake up at the back with Klopp furious on the touch line. Norwich were trying to keep the ball as much as possible, and had some good ball play, but were not troubling the Liverpool defence, as Liverpool’s midfield and front 3 were pressing high up the pitch, to not allow them any space. It was Liverpool’s attack that Norwich could not cope with. Salah and Firmino combining well, to create the 2nd goal for Liverpool with a nice finish by Salah.

Liverpool made it 3-0 with a corner by Salah and it was just too easy as Van Dijk headed the ball went past Tim Krul in the 28th minute. The mood changed a little at Anfield as Alisson cleared the ball from his penalty area and slipped and was taken off and replaced by Adrian who just joined Liverpool in the week from West Ham on a free transfer, as Mignolet left the club for Club Brugge. Liverpool were totally dominating the game in the first half and just before half time, Trent played a sublime ball forward from the right side in the Norwich half and Origi headed the ball beyond Tim Krul, and it looked so easy and Liverpool went 4-0 up at the break.

In the 2nd period it was almost 5, as Henderson’s shot was saved by Tim Krul and then a few seconds later a cross from Trent inside the Norwich penalty area, Firmino could not wrap his foot around the ball, and hit the bar going out for a goal kick. Norwich losing the ball in the wrong area of the pitch and Salah bent a shot from the right hand side, and just missed the left hand post of Tim Krul. Midway through the second half, Norwich looked more comfortable on the ball, and making good passes and getting into the Liverpool half, and a shot hit the top bar for Norwich and a minute later, a nice ball cut Liverpool’s defense just outside the edge of the box, saw Pukki score pass Adrian with a delightful finish in the 64th minute. Liverpool trying hard to get the 5th goal, but Norwich kept them out and had no more butterflies in their stomach. Sadio Mane gets a warm applause from the Anfield faithful, when he was brought on for Origi in the 74th minute. Milner was brought on to replace Firmino, late on in the second half. The final whistle blew and it ended 4-1 to Liverpool at Anfield, for the first Premier League match of the 2019/20 season.

The team talk at half time worked as Norwich in the 2nd half played well with the ball and created chances, stopping Liverpool from getting their 5th, and Adrian had to make some saves in the second half to keep Norwich out, but the damage was done in the first half to win the match, and it was a great way for Liverpool to start the new season with a victory. Losing Alisson in the first half will worry Klopp and Liverpool and we should wait and hear about his latest injury news. Liverpool are now 42 games unbeaten at Anfield with victory over Norwich.
