Liverpool keeping tabs on Nigerian winger as Jurgen Klopp looks to do business early

Liverpool are according to talkSPORT, targeting Nigerian international Moses Simon as their next summer recruitment.

The Reds have already been hard at work in the transfer window bringing in Brazilian midfielder Fabinho from Monaco for a £40 million fee.

Naby Keita will also be moving to Anfield this summer after the Guinean midfielder agreed to join Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2017

But focus now turns to Gent winger Simon. The 22-year-old netted six times in his 29 appearances in the league this season as Gent finished fourth.

The Nigerian has earned 20 caps for his nation, scoring four times, but will not be part of the Super Eagles’ team for Russia due to injury.

Liverpool will need to meet the £10 million valuation to capture the winger’s signature who still has a year left on his contract with Gent.

Simon holds incredible pace and power and could be an effective back up for fellow Africans and Liverpool superstars Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. He is versatile to both wings and can even be played as a support striker if needed to replace Roberto Firmino.

Following a competitive season both in the Premier League and at European level, it will be important for Jurgen Klopp to add depth to his squad. The Merseyside club deservedly reached the final of the Champions League but the lack of options in important positions affected performances in the league during the hectic end of season period.

One of the strongest, most effective parts of Klopp’s team last season was their blistering pace and stunning counter attack football both down the flanks and through the middle.

Simon looks to fit that forward-thinking mould and would be a useful player to strengthen Klopp’s side if they are to challenge for the title next season and compete in Europe again.
