League One Play-offs – A crazy end to the season.

With the 2017/2018 football season coming to an end, the battle for a play off spot in league one continues to entertain. With the top three teams seemingly certain as being Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town, it leaves six teams to fight for three positions. Rotherham United currently occupy fourth position, and sit with a six point safety gap to Plymouth Argyle in fifth, however Argyle have a game in hand on the team above. Charlton Athletic sit a point behind Argyle whilst Portsmouth sit below Charlton only behind them on goal difference. Peterborough United and Scunthorpe both have 61 points, with Posh having the upper hand owing to the goal difference.

On match day 43, there are three matches in which both teams are fighting for promotion. Wigan entertain Rotherham, whilst Plymouth host Portsmouth. In London, Charlton will host Scunthorpe. Peterborough face Rochdale at home, and on paper, in league position Posh should be able to take three points from this match, and look to find a way into the play offs, whilst the teams around battle it out. Match day 44 sees Peterborough travel to Blackburn on a Thursday night, where they will be hoping to pull off a very good away win, whilst on the Saturday the only other promotion battle sees Portsmouth hosting Charlton. Match day 45 sees Plymouth host Rotherham and Charlton host Blackburn. The final match day of the season could prove to be the decider, the only promotion clash on the final day will see Peterborough travel to Fratton Park, in a game that could decide who will fight in the play offs this season. With the league table so tight at the top, and all the play-off contenders playing each other, who knows how this season will finish off. Could the Posh find a way back into the championship, could Portsmouth prove that they really are on the way back, or could we see the likes of Scunthorpe playing in the championship. The answer is not yet known, but it is going to be one interesting end to the season
