Josè Mourinho: A new era of dominance at Old Trafford!

Written by Siddesh Iyer

The first three games of the Premier League have been completed and Josè Mourinho has already got a “misfiring” Manchester United team as they were called under former manager Louis Van Gaal as the early pacesetters in the new Premier League season. Three games played 9 points out 9 and 2 clean sheets out of 3! There has been no shortage in the goals department either with Zlatan Ibrahimovic among the top scorers in the three games played so far. So what exactly has the Portuguese mastermind done to get the Red Devils firing again? Let’s have a look.

Be it in the transfer window or on the football pitch Josè has been striving hard to get back the swagger of the Sir Alex Ferguson era. Blockbuster transfer deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the world record transfer deal for Paul Pogba alongside some astute purchases in Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have turned Man Utd into firm favourites as title contenders. Moreover, the playing style of the current team is very different as compared to the redundant style of play under Louis Van Gaal.

This certainly isn’t all out attack but is definitely an appropriate blend of attack coupled with some excellent defensive solidarity. The defensive partnership of new signing Eric Bailly and Daley Blind employed in the first three games is absolutely flawless. The physicality and tenacity of Bailly coupled with an excellent reading of the game by Daley Blind certainly makes the Manchester United defence one of the best in the League.

Now, coming to the attacking part. Just what can we say? There’s Zlatan in there coupled with the ever present and fabulous Wayne Rooney and with last year’s Bundesliga Player of the Year Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the offing there is certainly no shortage of goals, creativity or flair!

And with Paul Pogba in midfield, there could be absolutely no complaints regarding the ball distribution capacity that this Manchester United team possesses.

Josè Mourinho certainly has the players and the fans by his side in attempting to make Manchester United the very best once again; however a very tough Premier League season lies ahead. Mourinho is definitely one of the best in tackling such challenges and has a nice blend of youth and experience at his disposal. Even “Fergie time” hasn’t escaped Mourinho’s sights as seen in the recent win vs Hull City with a goal from teenage sensation Marcus Rashford in injury time. With the all important Manchester Derby on the horizon, Josè Mourinho vs Pep Guardiola is definitely the talk of the town and with Sergio Aguero of Man City facing a retrospective ban of 3 games, Mourinho might actually be in pole position to draw first blood in his first Manchester Derby.

So, with all the jigsaw pieces falling into place the “Josè Mourinho era” at Manchester United is certainly in the upward trail and exciting times lie ahead for all the Red Devils fans around the world! Glory Glory Man United!

Manchester United fans, how much do you put the improvements down to the wealth of new talent or is Mourinho really showing his qualities? Let us know in the comments below!
