Having added both Fred and Diogo Dalot to his ranks, Jose Mourinho is in the market for a third addition to his Manchester United side and he wants his latest deal completed prior to the beginning of the World Cup on Thursday, The Sun reports.

United have entered talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the future of Belgian defender, Toby Alderweireld, with the commanding centre-back linked with a £50 million move to Old Trafford as Mourinho aims to get his business done early.

With the North London outfit refusing to match the Belgian's wage demands, Alderweireld's future is filled with uncertainty as the 20 time champions look to swoop for the man heading to Russia.

Two hamstring injuries during the 2017/18 season limited Alderweireld to just 21 appearances in all competitions but the fit-again defender is set to face many of his Spurs teammates in Belgium's upcoming Group G clash with England.

United currently have five centre-backs on the books but look set to add another for the third consecutive summer and it's not just Alderweireld the Red Devils have been linked with, Raphael Varane, Jerome Boateng and Kalidou Koulibaly also feature on an apparent eight-man shortlist.

Alderweireld joined Spurs for an estimated £11.5 million from Atletico Madrid following an impressive loan spell with Southampton. However, Mauricio Pochettino looks likely to cash in on the Ajax youth product.
