So it was that time of the year again for another League Cup Final. It finished Manchester United 3-2 Southampton.
Some people would call this the luckiest title United have ever won. The dominance of Southampton really started early in the game with there star man Manolo Gabbiadiani really opened up the play for the underdogs. Two goals in 3 minutes for Southampton however it was in two separate half’s with goals by Gabbiadiani coming in the 45+1 and 48th minutes nevertheless still impressive.
A heartbreaking decision for Southampton fans to say the least was when a very controversial offside call was given after, Gabbiadiani struck home a wonder of a shot passed De Gea. Gabbiadini had 2 goals and this goal would have gotten him a hat-trick and probably the golden boot if his team were to go on and win the game in spectacular fashion.
The 35 year old striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic performed outstanding during the duration of the game with 2 goals to his name including the winner. His 87th minute goal left the Saints fans speechless and heartbroken at the very least. Ibrahimovic’s first goal was a free-kick of wonders bending it into the very far left hand side of the goal. The Swede definitely deserved the man of the match award he gained in the cup final.
Jesse Lingard got a goal to his name with his goal coming in the 38th minute putting himself on the score-sheet and helping United win the cup.
