It was a fantastic opening weekend of Premier League action last week to kick-start the top tier’s campaign and with so many goals flying in, an awful lot of points in our Fantasy Premier League were scored. We saw the big name arrivals score on their debuts such as Lukaku, Morata and Lacazette but there were also some big points scored from those all important low cost players who can make all the difference if you are wanting to go far in our league. We gave you some must have names for this seasons Fantasy League and those players largely delivered in the opening weekend so here are our writers selections going into this weekend.
David Robinson – Pick: Ahmed Hegazi – West Brom – £4.6m
The Egyptian scored the winner for the Baggies last week and despite being an unknown quantity, already looks to be an ideal choice to fill in everyone’s squads. The giant defender is surely going to continue to be a threat in the opposition box with West Brom the most devastating side from set pieces in the league. He looks an absolute bargain at £4.6m and with it so early on he could be a cracking piece of business with such a long season ahead.
West Brom play Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday and this is why Hegazi should slot straight in. Despite a huge shock as Burnley stunned Chelsea with a 3-2 win last weekend, you would expect the Clarets to be bought back down to reality and have a stern test in the shape of Tony Pulis’s side. You would expect there to be very few goals if at all so a chance of a clean sheet is very much on with this pick.
Siddesh Iyer – Pick: Lukaku & Mkhitaryan – Manchester United – £11.6m & £8.1m
It’s very difficult to not be impressed with Manchester United’s opening day thumping of West Ham. They looked on fire and well set for a title challenge even if it’s just one game. 13 and 11 points respectively for these two players meant they have got off to a flyer and with Manchester United’s visit to Swansea coming up, it could be the perfect time to fit these players into your team if you haven’t already.
Lukaku was lethal when it mattered against West Ham and Siddesh has suggested deploying him as your Captain for this week. Swansea have just sold their best player in Gylfi Sigurdsson so on paper there couldn’t be a better time to play them. You can easily see the Red Devils running riot so the Belgium forward looks a safe pick for points and Mkhitaryan could well be the provider furthering his tally.
Andy Wood – Pick: Jonas Lossl – Huddersfield Town – £4.5m
The Danish goalkeeper had an inspired debut keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 away victory at Crystal Palace. 9 points has got Lossl off to a great start and could be a crafty selection this gameweek. He is likely to be in between the sticks for the Terriers first home match when they entertain Newcastle on Sunday. This could be an opportunity for another 4 points with a clean sheet as Newcastle looked out of ideas and toothless against Spurs last Sunday, they are also without Jonjo Shelvey for the match and this presents Huddersfield with an opportunity to double their points tally.
At just £4.5m you could do a lot worse than by putting Lossl into your side freeing up funds elsewhere on the pitch.
Ryan Fisher – Pick: Romelu Lukaku & Phil Jones – Manchester United – £11.6m & £5.0m
Lukaku is looking a favourable pick among fans with 52.3% of players picking United’s new signing up front. For the same reasons as above a red hot Lukaku after last week and a weak Swansea back line are the reasons why Ryan thinks Lukaku is the perfect choice.
Phil Jones made a great impression against West Ham last week and so an anticipated start and strong possibility of a clean sheet, Jones could be a typical player that goes under the radar but is highly fruitful in terms of points scored. At just £5.0m you could struggle to find better value for money.
Luke Marsh – Pick: Jamie Vardy – Leicester City – £8.6m
13 points for Jamie Vardy on the opening weekend would show he is back in the mood and back in with a shout for plenty more points this season. His two goals against Arsenal put him in a prime position to bag another as Leicester host Brighton on Saturday. You would expect the Foxes to break down the Seagulls and if anyone is going to apply the finish it’ll be Vardy particularly if he is full of confidence and in a determined mood. Brighton and not going to be fancied by many on a weekly basis so they are in many ways a safe bet to go against. If looking at the fixtures when making your selections is your style then the Englishman looks a good pick.
