Arsenal chiefs have boarded a flight to Russia as they aim to tie up a deal for Sampdoria midfielder, Lucas Torreira, with just a medical still to complete for the North London bound playmaker, SampNews24 reports.

Unai Emery’s side have reportedly met the Uruguayan’s release clause as well as agreeing on a deal with the player himself which could see him head to the Emirates upon the conclusion of events in Russia. Gunners staff will have to contend with Torreira’s frantic World Cup schedule in order to make sure of the youngster’s Serie A exit.

Following a sensational campaign with Sampdoria, Torreira has turned the heads of Europe’s elite outfits as his nation continue their participation in the group stages having secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Egypt despite Torreira only mustering a short cameo appearance, as a late Jose Gimenez header ensured they secured maximum points.

Torreira helped the Genoa-based side to a 10th placed finish, netting four times as he cemented his place in Marco Giampaolo’s side. The ex-Pescara man has racked up over 100 senior appearances despite being just 22 years of age.

With it seemingly a case of when rather than if Torreira makes the move to England, Emery will see this move as another area addressed as he prepares for a challenging first season in England, which will see him make his league bow against defending champions, Manchester City.
