Future Ballon D’or Winners
Since Kaka won the award back in 2007, the award has been dominated by two phenomenal players Messi and Ronaldo. Due to the crazy amount of goals they’ve scored, and all the honours they have helped their clubs to win over the last few years there is no surprise these two have dominated the award. There are so many world class players that have slipped under the radar since then. Before Ronaldo and Messi started their domination, there was a different winner every year. Some of the world class players that missed out on the award are Xavi, Pirlo, Robben and Buffon who are all considered legends of the beautiful game and have won many trophies but unfortunately missed out on the award. This article will look at possible future winners of the coveted prize.
Already a Ballon d’or finalist Neymar is already considered a future winner because of his career so far. Neymar already has scored an incredible 53 goals for his country Brazil and is definitely on course to break the goalscoring record of the great Pele, which is a great acheivement. Neymar started his career at Santos who have produced some of Brazil’s finest players. Neymar made his debut and just 17 for Santos, and by the age of 20 he had already scored 100th goal as a professional. In the summer 2013 one of football’s most decorated clubs Barcelona came calling and signed Neymar for £48 million. At Barcelona Neymar won two La Liga titles, three Copa Del Rey’s, one Supercopa De Espana, one Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup. In total Neymar scored a very impressive 105 goals in 186 appearances. In the summer of 2017 PSG paid a world record fee £198 million for his services, and he has started tremendously for PSG scoring 17 goals in 20 appearances. With these achievements it’s only a matter of time Neymar wins the coveted prize.
In the summer of 2012 a 21 year old Hazard was attracting most of football’s elite clubs,after he won the Ligue 1 player of the year award for successive seasons. Chelsea was the club Hazard chose to sign for, since signing for Chelsea Hazard has dazzled the Premier League with his ability to get fans out of their seat. Hazard’s career for Chelsea has been very successful seeing him 2 League titles, 1 league cup and 1 Europa League. Hazard is known for his dribbling and is without doubt one of the best dribblers in world football. The Belgian made his international debut aged just 17, and has gone to make 82 appearances for his country scoring 21 goals. Another great honour for him came in 2016 where he was made captain of Belgium’s golden generation which is tipped to win many trophies in the next coming years. At the age of 26 Hazard is at the prime of his career and is destined to conquer the football world.
Kevin De Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne is a wonderfully gifted player who was signed by Chelsea back in 2012, but unfortunately didn’t get his chance at the club despite the talent he possesses. De Bruyne signed for Wolfsburg in 2014 and had a really good spell, there with his most successful season coming in 2014-15 where he scored 16 goals and got an eye-watering 27 assists in all competitions, and this type of form was attracting a lot top clubs to show interest. In the summer of 2017 Manchester City acquired the services of De Bruyne for a club record fee of £55 million and he has took his game to another level with his terrific passing and his brilliant vision. De Bruyne has become a key member of Guardiola’s brilliant Manchester City’s side. Aged just 26 De Bruyne is on course to win all the major trophies in both club football and international.
The young French sensation sent shock-waves through the football world by scoring an incredible 26 goals in 44 games last season, as Monaco enjoyed a successful season by winning Ligue 1 and getting to the semi finals of the Champions League, achieving all this while still being a teenager. Mbappe’s impressive performances especially in key Champions League games, have had led to many greats of the game to give him praise and many have compared him to the French legend Thierry Henry. After his brilliant breakout season most elite clubs were vying to sign the wonderkid, and it was PSG who won the race to sign him last summer on loan which will become permanent this summer for £166 million. Mbappe already has won many individual honours including Ligue 1 young player of the year and Golden Boy awards. Aged just 19 Mbappe looks like he is going to dominate the football world for the decade or so and will definitely win many more trophies, and it is only a matter of time he wins the Ballon d’or.
In the summer of 2016 Manchester United spent £89 million to resign Paul Pogba, since then the Frenchman has impressed with his ability to unlock defences with his killer passes and his pinpoint accuracy with his passing. Many pundits and ex professionals have described him as the complete player. Pogba is a crucial member of a young exciting French side which is one of the favourites for the upcoming World Cup. Pogba was also part of the Juventus team which won 4 consecutive Serie A titles.
