With easyJet you can purchase extra weight before departure in 3kg units for £12 up to a maximum of 32kg per bag (unless you've purchased a 15kg bag, then the limit is 27 kg). If your checked luggage exceeds your allowance, then you will be charged £12 for each 1kg of excess weight at the airport.
Overweight baggage fees can be far costlier than base charges for checked luggage. For example, American and United issue a fee of $100 for each checked bag weighing 50 – 70 pounds on domestic flights, or $200 for bags weighing more than 70 pounds.
easyJet are quite strict and state that unless you pay extras, you'll be limited to one small bag which must fit underneath the seat in front of you. Your bag must fit in the sizer otherwise you risk having to pay extras at the gate.
As a thumb rule, there is no extra tolerated amount of extra weight.

Weigh yourself on a home scale, then weigh yourself holding the bag. Subtract the first from the second and you'll get the weight of the bag. If the bag is bigger than the scale, such as hanging over the sides, it won't weigh properly and that's why you have to stand on the scales holding it.

Makeup in a solid or powder form is allowed in carry-on and checked bags with no quantity or size limitations. However, when packed in carry-on bags, makeup in a liquid, lotion, gel, paste or creamy form, must be in containers that are 3.4 ounces or less.
When does the policy change? From 10 February the new rules come into place. However, passengers who booked their flights before the rule change was announced on 2 December will be offered the chance to check in a bag up to the existing hand-luggage dimensions for free. Anyone else is subject to the new restrictions.
