In snow, dirt, and mud the Speedcross 4 breathed fairly well, but was not outstanding. This version is not waterproof, either. Note that this version of Speedcross 4 is not waterproof, but Salomon does offer a Gore-Tex covered version.
It is waterproof and the colour is brilliant.
We use two GORE-TEX technologies in Salomon footwear: GORE-TEX footwear (with Extended Comfort construction): with optimized breathability and GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY™ protection, shoes using this technology are durably waterproof and breathable.
This shoe is for racing in dirt, gravel, and even snow, despite its non-waterproof—yet efficiently protective—upper.
In most cases, you don't need waterproof trail-running shoes, even if you're running on wet and muddy trails. Waterproof trail-running shoes can trap water inside and cause your feet to overheat and sweat, which is why many trail runners choose very breathable, non-waterproof shoes instead.
A) Waterproofing: Regardless of whether you're running in snow-free winters or a snowmageddon, a water-repellant upper is a must-have. The use of a Gore-Tex membrane is a good marker of waterproofness but proprietary technologies from Columbia and Salomon are equally effective.
SPEEDCROSS 5 GORE-TEX has a new GORE-TEX construction with a floating tongue that improves comfort and streamlines the overall look and feel of the shoe. It maintains the renown grip, outstanding cushioning, and precise fit that have made this shoe a favorite.
The Speedcross leans far more on extreme grip with its yet more prominent lugs and deeply bowed and arched underfoot profile and thus use in snow and mud while the Supercross is clearly leans more towards versatility on more varied terrain.
The Salomon Speedcross has a slightly smaller fit, it fits snug as soon as you put it on so so we highly advise that you wear half a size up from your true size to prevent discomfort around the toe box area.
Don't wash your shoes in the washing machine because it might damage them. Between each hike, store your shoes in the open air (not in a bag) in a dry place that is not exposed to the sun.
Whatever your playground, whatever the conditions, the SUPERCROSS BLAST GTX helps you push your limits. The shoe is fully waterproof(Gore-Tex) and really comfy with a soft lining, generous fit and spongy foam.
General care: After each use of the product it is recommended that you remove all dirt and mud from the shoes using a soft, wet brush and clean water. Shoes should never be cleaned in a washing machine. Shoes should be dried at room temperature without the aid of an external heat source including the sun.
The Salomon SpeedCross 5 trail shoes are designed with excellent traction and stability in mind. Their 10 mm drop is well-suited for hikers and runners that are used to a traditional, higher drop shoe.
The Salomon S/Max Blast is the top ski in Salomon's “Son of a Blast” line. A line that is about adrenaline, acceleration and the perfect turn. The S/Max is their top carver.
Hoka Speedgoat 4 Gore-tex 2 Shoes
It's not a fast shoe, but it's a comfortable shoe — perhaps one of the most comfortable shoes I've tested. The grippy outsole is made with Vibram Megagrip Hi-Traction with large five-millimeter lugs that perform beautifully in both snow-covered trails and roads.
You've undoubtedly heard of the HOKA Speedgoat 4 by now, and the GTX version is as tough as they come. HOKA added waterproof Gore-Tex material all over the upper to keep your toes especially dry in snow, rain, and whatever else may come.
Wear layers, including a base layer with a medium-weight or heavy long sleeve or vest over it depending on how cold it is. Also dress in running tights, running mittens, a wind/rainproof jacket, and long wool running socks. If it is slick outside, use something to enhance traction on your shoes like YakTrax.
Vaseline. If you're having problems with your leather shoes, you can always use Vaseline to waterproof your shoes temporarily. You will need to clean your shoes beforehand, then simply coat them in a layer of Vaseline and it'll do the job just as well.
ARE ALL GORE-TEX BRANDED PRODUCTS WATERPROOF? No. GORE-TEX products branded with the black label saying “GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY™” are built and tested to ensure durable waterproofness, windproofness and breathability in a vast activities range.
Always rinse your boots thoroughly with clean water afterward. Never put boots in a washing machine because it can damage them. If you plan to waterproof your boots, do it while they're still wet.
GORE-TEX materials consist of a membrane with very small pores. As soon as a shoe equipped with GORE-TEX is put in the washing machine, these are destroyed and the shoe is no longer waterproof. It is best to clean course dirt with lukewarm water and a brush for leather shoes or a sponge for textile shoes.
What is the best way to dry my GORE-TEX garment? We recommend line-drying your garment; it uses less energy and reduces your impact on the environment. Once it's dry, tumble dry the garment for 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) treatment on the outer fabric.
