Free Hit Fantasy Draft

The Premier League is embarking on the final push to the end of season and pretty much all teams have something to play or aim for. What if each team could acquire a player at the expense of another PL team to strengthen their squad? On the premise of each club can only lose one player and the worst team picks first here is my Free Hit Fantasy Draft:

1. Norwich City - Mo Salah

The weakest team in the league have many needs and surely relegation is inevitable? To appease their fans before they return to the Championship drafting them the most exciting forward they can will be a great gift.

2. Burnley - Kevin De Bruyne

The Clarets will still think they have a chance of surviving and the glaring need they possess is creativity in midfield, KDB will fill that void. If they do go down obtaining a number ten type player will be vital in the pursuit of a immediate return to the top flight.

3. Watford - Harry Kane

The Hornets have some exciting forwards but not a out and out number nine. In the NFL they say when drafting to pick the best person on your board when selecting this high, with Liverpool and Man City players not available Kane is the best player in the league left to be selected. His goals and leadership could be the deciding factor in staying up.

4. Everton - N’Golo Kante

Everton's depth of players in all positions is packed but not necessarily top quality, this is why the drop is a real possibility. Their midfield has no structure so selecting Kante will offer a identity and a man who plays for two.

5. Leeds United - Cristino Ronaldo

With Bamford pretty much ruled out for the rest of the season a striker to put the ball in the net is vital. Taking Ronaldo from their long-standing rivals plus filling the major void will fill like the best result of the season. The Portuguese superstar will not press like his new teammates but their work rate will cover his lack of.

6. Brentford - Allan Saint-Maximin

The Bees have found a formation which is squeaking results lately, ideally they would pick up a right back but it would seem a waste of this high pick especially as the best ones are not available. Selecting Saint Maximin weakens a rival but also freshens up the front three, creating a four into three scenario.

7. Newcastle United - Jose Sa

The glaring need for Newcastle after a busy January bulking up their squad is in goal. Jose Sa is the best available keeper left in the draft, it’s as simple as that!

8. Brighton & Hove Albion - Jamie Vardy

The Seagulls probably have enough points on the board to avoid the drop but currently it’s hard to see them winning another game this season. They desperately need a top class striker, key traits being goal scoring and pace, Vardy is that man plus he has the nasty competitive edge like current Brighton striker Maupay.

9. Crystal Palace - Tomas Soucek

With some of the most talented young forwards in the division and a brand new defensive line up, picking up a central midfielder who can do a bit of everything is the top need of the Eagles. Out of all the talent left Soucek ticks so many boxes for Palace and could even be the deciding factor for their pursuit of FA Cup glory.

10. Southampton - Emmanuel Dennis

Borja and Adams have dropped off dramatically lately while Armstrong has not fitted in so far at the St Mary’s Stadium. A injection of explosion could see results turn around for Southampton and licking Dennis could see that happen. Some other forwards may be better or rated higher than the Watford man but his all round game suits the Saints style of play and he could even be a target in the summer. Bringing him early for a little trial period would be beneficial for all parties.

11. Leicester City - Ivan Toney

Daka is still finding his feet and Iheanacho is inconsistent so with Vardy being drafted taking Toney makes sense. So many of Leicester’s squad are back from injury so fairly complete in their needs. The goals have flowed for the Brentford man since Christian Eriksen became a teammate so joining forces with Maddison, Tielemens and Barnes is a scary proposition.

12. Aston Villa - James Ward Prowse

To Villa this pick will seem like destiny fulfilled, Ward Prowse is a long term target and bringing him into the building for a short while will seem like a audition on their side.

13. Wolverhampton Wanderers - Tariq Lamptey

Right wing back is the one area of the team where Wolves are lacking a solid performer, being able to bring in Lamptey will compliment Ait Noura over on the left. Both flanks will be equally patrolled by youthful, bombarding talents feeding off the classy playmakers around them.

14. West Ham - Bakaro Saka

With many teams taking specific needs or reacting to losing a player, West Ham take advantage of the availability of a Arsenal player and nab their best player. Striker is a need for the Hammers but the form Saka is in lately he will more than be able to cover the injured Bowen.

15. Manchester United - Dominic Calvert Lewin

Prior to his injury Calvert Lewin would have been one of the first strikers considered in a draft situation but his stock has fallen this season. His talent should not be forgotten and this is a move which could become a permanent one in the future.

16. Tottenham Hotspur - Raphinha

The one Leeds player who has gained any credit this season will be a great addition to the Spurs forward line along with Kane & Son. Kalvin Phillips is the most sought after Leeds player but his fitness and fit to many teams remains a doubt.

17. Arsenal - Ollie Watkins

Watkins is a forward rather than a striker and with Saka being drafted he is a perfect fit to come in for the short term. After the recent England game he has been anointed the back up to Kane and Sterling but that reeks of recency bias.

18. Chelsea - Tyrik Mitchell

What do you get the team who has two of everything, a promising upgrade in the one spot they are lacking is the best idea. Mitchell is very unspectacular but at this point in the draft choices are limited. Not as forward thinking than current options at left back but without a doubt better defensively.

19. Liverpool - Maxwel Cornet

Like the other teams in the top three Liverpool are well set everywhere so the choice in this spot is take Pukki to spite City or look after themselves. Ultimately I have picked a man who may not start but will offer cover in various positions.

20. Manchester City - Teemu Pukki

With a handful of games to go Pep gains a out and out striker who is more than capable to add the finishing touches to his teams expressive passing style.

Who would you draft for your team if you had a chance?
