Forgotten Men

The worst thing that happened to Everton over the last 5 years has been the takeover of the club by Farhad Moshiri! Before then the club had a identity, they didn’t have money so they invested in young players and were about to unleash an amazing crop of young players. Unfortunately since then the answer has been throw heaps of money at average Premier League players. They have already lost a great young player acquired from Charlton in Lookman who in order to obtain 1st team football has taken the Sancho route. The best young talent at the club needs to move on next and the crying shame is he’s more than good enough to play in the side now………Tom Davies is one of the premier English midfielders but he cannot dislodge the expensive imports. Davies is your typical box to box player with a great talent to carry the ball great distances into the attacking third. He is only 21 so has time to make an impact for club and country but he needs to move on before he becomes totally forgotten. Outside Liverpool & Man City he would be a 1st team regular for any other Premier League side. If I was his agent I would be pressing for a move away in January even if it’s a loan deal. The way Gareth Southgate operates, a regular run playing football could mean a call up for the Euro’s next year.

Whilst thinking about Tom’s status, quite a few other players come to mind who are clearly not rated at their current clubs:

Adam Lallana – Since his injury Liverpool have transformed so much it’s hard to see him change their perception of him from being a squad player. 32 next May, this man desperately needs game time. Southampton would surely take him back on loan?

Other players fit into the injury category like Adam including Conor Wickham, Nathaniel Chalobah & Robbie Brady. Entry into the starting 11 is not happening, a kick start at a new home plus prolonged fitness would mean them all being valuable assets for new clubs.

Ben Davies – 2 seasons ago, Ben was playing weekly and earning Fantasy fans many points from left back. Now when he gets a chance he is widely criticised for his below par performances, ring rust comes to mind. Adept anywhere on the left hand side of defence, he is surely an upgrade for clubs like Man Utd to Newcastle’s current players.

Michy Batshuayi – The odd one out in the list due to the fact he is not British and he is now frozen out due to the Chelsea transfer ban meaning they have discovered the youth team! A proven goalscorer who is priced out of moves abroad due to his wages, the fact that 95% of the Premier League can afford him should mean one of them take a punt on him. With a managers belief he can tally up 15-20 goals a season.

Calum Chambers – So pleased he got minutes last Sunday, a goal and a match winning performance showed the Emirates what he can do. Time will tell if Emery shows faith over a prolonged period, surely he is better than Sokratis or Maitland-Niles?

Adam Smith – One of the most under rated full backs in the Premier League, now Jack Stacey has joined its clear he will be phased out of the team. A side challenging for promotion would be silly not to bring in him for the 2nd half of the season.

Dwight Gayle – Too good for the EFL not rated in the Premier League, surely not he just needs faith. Newcastle would rather bring in foreign strikers, his agent should be touting him around Wolves or Burnley who need pace & goals which he could offer.

Ryan Bertrand – A few years ago he was playing for England, now he is sub for the Saints. Another left hand side player who could do a job for loads of teams. As mad as it sounds Man City keep persevering with Mendy maybe being fit or the sub par Zinchenko but couldn’t Bertrand fit in?

Perception is in the eye of the beholder and hopefully these men can find a gaffer/director of football who wants what they can offer?
