Rafa Benitez is set to complete his seventh summer signing with Federico Fernandez currently on his way to Newcastle for a medical. The Swansea defender appears to be the alternative to failed deals for Ragnar Klavan and Eric Pieters. According to Sky Sports, Fernandez is set for a permanent move to the Premier League club later today.
Following Swansea’s relegation from the Premier League in the 2017/18 season, Federico Fernandez has been desperate for a move back to the Premier League. The Argentine defender is currently on his way to Newcastle to undergo a medical, however, a deal has not yet been agreed between the clubs.
Swansea are reportedly willing to sell the defender for around £6 million and it appears a matter of time before the deal goes through. The 29-year-old will follow in the footsteps of fellow ex-Swansea man, Ki Sung-Yeung and will become Swansea’s 10th outgoing of the season, four of which have already returned to the Premier League.
