Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has promised Cristiano Ronaldo the number seven shirt currently worn by Alexis Sanchez should the Portuguese star return to Old Trafford.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments after the Champions League final have fueled talk of his departure.

It is claimed Mourinho wants to give him Sanchez’s number seven. Though previously at odds, Mourinho and Ronaldo have reportedly patched up their relationship. Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward has always liked Ronaldo, and his potential availability has fueled the Red Devils’ interest even more.

Sanchez, 29, moved to Manchester from Arsenal in January, but Spanish site Don Balon claims the Chilean may depart this summer. In 12 appearances for Mourinho’s side, Sanchez scored only two goals, adding three assists.

With Ronaldo potentially joining Mourinho’s side, Don Balon claims that the Portuguese manager has told Sanchez he must give up his shirt or leave the club.

At the close of the season though, Sanchez only had good things to say about his new club. “I believe that United really is a very big club on a worldwide scale and even more so in England where it’s the biggest.”

Continuing, “I also had some great players alongside me at Barcelona. I think that United are not too dissimilar as a club to them in their size and stature.”
