Though rejecting a move in the summer, Ross Barkley(24) has finally signed for Chelsea.
After Chelsea and Everton agreed a £35 million deal last summer, Barkley rejected the move on deadline day. Now, four months later, Barkley has signed a five and a half year contract with the Premier League champions for a fee of £15 million. Though some believed that Barkley opted for Spurs, Chelsea have won the race for the Englishman.
In 150 appearances for Everton, Barkley has scored 21 goals, assisted in 18 while creating 26 big chances. He is a Chelsea blue for Barkley physical midfielder with good technique as stated by Chelsea’s technical director, Marina Granovskaia. He can also chip in with goals and might finish the chances Bakayoko squanders.
Barkley has not featured for Everton this season and is also eligible to play in the Champions League which will be a big boost to Conte’s champions with them playing both Manchester clubs and the tie against Barcelona in between. With the squad paper thin, some might wonder why sign another midfielder when you already have four and what implications the transfer might have on highly rated Ruben Loftus-Cheek , who is impressing on loan at Crystal Palace. Chelsea are also reportedly looking at Alex Sandro and Thomas Lemar though a move looks unlikely with them being crucial to their teams.
