Firpo, 21-years-old, made 14 appearances in La Liga last season, scoring two goals, whilst making a further two assists.

Firpo is currently entering the final 12 months of his contract at Betis, the side which he has been at since the age of 14.

Betis are aware of the interest in the youngster and are keen on tieing the Dominican Republic man down with a new long-term contract.

The Betis academy graduate is a versatile player, favouring the left-side of defence but also being used further forward.

Real Sociedad are reportedly interested in the Gunners 32-year-old Monreal, as they look to purchase the Spanish defender on a three-year deal. Any money gained from the departure of Monreal is set to be used to lure Firpo to the Emirates.

New Gunners boss Unai Emery has been busy in the transfer window so far, signing right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner as well as goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Emery has clearly wanted to improve his defence which finished 6th in the Premier League last term, with Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos also being lined up for a move.
